Tata Power’s CSR initiatives continue to set a benchmark in the corporate world, driving inclusive growth and sustainable development across India.

NEW DELHI (India CSR): Tata Power spent a total of Rs. 9.01 crore on CSR activities in the fiscal year 2023-24. This expenditure was against a nil CSR obligation, calculated as per Section 135 of the Companies Act. On a consolidated basis, the company’s group entities spent Rs. 58.00 crore on CSR activities against a CSR obligation of Rs. 47.76 crore. This article provides an in-depth look at the CSR strategies and key interventions undertaken by Tata Power during this period.

Tata Power’s CSR Philosophy

Tata Power’s CSR philosophy revolves around three major thrust areas: Education, Employability and Employment, and Entrepreneurship. These focus areas are designed to drive long-term, sustainable community development, aligning with Tata Group’s broader social responsibility initiatives. The company’s approach involves proactive consultation with communities, ensuring that the CSR projects address their specific needs.

Key Interventions

Education

Education is a cornerstone of Tata Power’s CSR strategy. The company has focused on improving digital and financial literacy, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education, and conservation awareness. The flagship initiative, Club Enerji, aims to educate young minds about energy conservation and environmental preservation. Through various educational programs, Tata Power has impacted over 38,000 children across multiple states, promoting a culture of sustainability from a young age.

Employability and Employment

Tata Power has taken significant steps to enhance employability and employment opportunities, especially for the youth. The company’s Vocational Training Centers (VTCs) and Tata Power Skill Development Institute (TPSDI) are pivotal in providing skill-based training. In FY24, over 1 lakh youth were trained and made employable, with a special emphasis on women. These efforts align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), aiming to create a skilled workforce ready to meet the demands of the future.

Entrepreneurship

Entrepreneurship is another critical area where Tata Power has made substantial contributions. The Anokha Dhaaga initiative supports self-help groups and community collectives, fostering entrepreneurial spirit among local communities. By enabling over 35,000 community collectives, Tata Power is helping individuals build sustainable livelihoods and contribute to the economic development of their regions.
