NEW DELHI (India CSR): Tata Power-led Odisha Discoms are committed to empowering communities and creating sustainable livelihood opportunities, with a special focus on women’s empowerment. Through targeted initiatives in education, employability, entrepreneurship, and healthcare, the discoms are enabling women across Odisha to become self-reliant and financially independent. By integrating skill development with economic opportunities, the company is not only fostering gender equality but also driving long-term socio-economic growth in the region.

By engaging 1,220 Women Self-Help Groups (WSHGs), Tata Power is empowering over 12,000 local women through training, financial support, and market linkages. These SHGs play a crucial role in creating sustainable livelihood opportunities and fostering economic independence.

Tata Power-led Odisha Discoms have also successfully engaged 1,913 Abhas across the state, supporting their journey toward self-sufficiency. This initiative focuses on training women in technical domains such as electricity metering, billing, and collection, while also raising awareness of energy conservation in both urban and rural Odisha.

Recognizing that education is the foundation of empowerment, Tata Power has established 55 Women Literacy Centers, helping over 2,000 women gain basic literacy skills. Additionally, the company facilitates access to government schemes that support women’s education and economic advancement.

Tata Power’s efforts in skill development have been instrumental in enabling women to achieve financial independence. The company has set up 12 Vocational Training Centers and a Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Center, providing women with industry-relevant training. So far, over 2,000 women have been trained in hospitality, healthcare, stitching and tailoring, beautician services, and allied sectors, equipping them with skills to secure sustainable employment.

A Tata Power Spokesperson commented: “We are deeply committed to the Tata Group’s ethos of nation-building and inclusive growth. Empowering women is not just about uplifting individuals—it’s about strengthening entire communities. Through our focused initiatives in education, skill development, and entrepreneurship, we are bridging knowledge gaps and enhancing opportunities, enabling women to achieve financial independence and sustainable livelihoods. By equipping them with the right tools and support, we are fostering self-reliance and resilience to create a more inclusive society.”

This Women’s Day, Tata Power-led Odisha Discoms celebrate the resilience, strength, and achievements of empowered women across the state. By fostering education, economic opportunities, and essential social support, the company continues to drive a more inclusive and progressive society.
