Supreme Petrochem Limited exceeded its mandatory CSR obligation in FY2024-25, with major investments in education, healthcare, sanitation, rural infrastructure, and environmental sustainability projects across India.

NEW DELHI (India CSR): Supreme Petrochem Limited’s CSR spending in FY2024-25 highlights the growing role of corporate social responsibility (CSR) in supporting long-term community welfare and sustainable development in India. According to the company’s annual report, Supreme Petrochem spent Rs 13.02 crore on CSR activities during FY2025, exceeding its mandatory CSR obligation of Rs 12.81 crore under the Companies Act, 2013. The spending covered several important sectors, including education, sanitation, childcare, rural infrastructure, healthcare, and environmental sustainability. Many of the initiatives were implemented in villages near the company’s manufacturing operations in Maharashtra, while some educational support projects also reached states such as Rajasthan. The report highlights investments in digital classrooms, Anganwadi centres, sanitation facilities, and recycling-related environmental projects aimed at improving the quality of life for local communities. The company’s CSR approach during FY2025 reflected a stronger focus on long-term social impact and infrastructure development rather than short-term charity-based activities.

Supreme Petrochem Spent More Than Required CSR Amount

As per the company’s annual report, Supreme Petrochem Limited was required to spend Rs 12.81 crore towards CSR activities during FY2024-25. The amount represented 2% of the company’s average net profit earned during the previous three financial years, which stood at over Rs 644 crore.

Focus on Long-Term Community Development Projects

A significant portion of Supreme Petrochem’s CSR spending was directed towards long-term infrastructure and development projects. According to the report, around Rs 6.67 crore was spent on the creation or acquisition of assets, while the remaining expenditure supported other social welfare activities.

The company also disclosed that some projects remain ongoing and will continue over multiple years. An amount of Rs 3.29 crore related to these ongoing initiatives remained unspent at the close of the financial year. The annual report states that the company initiated the transfer of this amount to a separate bank account designated specifically for CSR ongoing projects, as required under CSR regulations.

Such multi-year projects usually involve infrastructure creation, school development, healthcare support, and community welfare initiatives that require phased implementation.

Rural Sanitation and Infrastructure Received Attention

Improving sanitation and public infrastructure formed an important part of the company’s CSR activities during the year. According to the annual report, Supreme Petrochem invested in the construction of public toilet facilities in villages near its operational areas.

The company spent around Rs 7.5 lakh for the construction of sanitation blocks aimed at improving hygiene standards in rural communities. These projects were completed during March 2025 and are expected to benefit local residents by providing access to cleaner and safer sanitation facilities.

The report also highlights that the company supported local development works in Village Hedavali in Maharashtra’s Raigad district. Community gym equipment was provided to encourage fitness and promote healthy lifestyles among youth and residents.

Such initiatives reflect a broader trend among Indian manufacturing companies that are increasingly focusing on improving civic amenities in villages located near industrial operations.

Digital Learning and Education Projects Expanded

Education continued to remain one of the key focus areas of Supreme Petrochem’s CSR policy in FY2024-25. The company invested heavily in strengthening digital learning infrastructure in schools, particularly in rural areas.

According to the annual report, nearly Rs 19.75 lakh was spent on upgrading e-learning facilities in schools located in Roha and nearby regions in Maharashtra. The spending covered the renewal of software systems and hardware equipment in 15 classrooms spread across five schools.

The report states that these initiatives were intended to bridge the digital divide and improve access to modern learning tools for students studying in rural educational institutions. Digital classrooms and updated technology infrastructure are increasingly viewed as essential for improving learning outcomes, especially after the rapid adoption of technology in education following the pandemic years.

Apart from digital learning initiatives, the company also continued providing educational support materials such as stationery items to students from underprivileged backgrounds. The annual report further mentions support for school construction activities, including projects in Rajasthan.

Construction of Anganwadis for Child Welfare

One of the major social welfare initiatives undertaken by Supreme Petrochem during FY2024-25 involved the construction of Anganwadi centres in Maharashtra.

According to the company’s annual report, five Anganwadi buildings were developed for different Gram Panchayats in the Raigad district. The centres were designed to provide better childcare facilities, nutritional support, and pre-primary education for children in rural communities.

The total expenditure for these Anganwadi projects stood at more than Rs 71 lakh. Each centre reportedly covers around 640 square feet and is equipped to support early childhood development activities.

The annual report states that these facilities are expected to improve access to safe learning environments for children while also supporting women and families in rural areas through government-backed child welfare programs.

Anganwadis play a crucial role in India’s Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) programme by providing nutrition, health monitoring, and preschool education services to children and mothers.

Environmental Sustainability Initiatives Included Recycling Support

Environmental sustainability also remained part of Supreme Petrochem’s CSR and broader sustainability strategy during the financial year.

According to the report, the company supported plastic recycling initiatives through the provision of an EPS (Expandable Polystyrene) Melter to the Indian Centre for Plastics in the Environment (ICPE), Mumbai. The project involved an expenditure of around Rs 80,000.

The report highlights that the equipment is intended to support post-consumer plastic waste collection and recycling efforts. This initiative aligns with growing industry focus on circular economy practices and plastic waste management.

The annual report also notes that Supreme Petrochem continued implementing internal sustainability measures aimed at reducing energy consumption and improving operational efficiency. The company reportedly achieved energy savings of over 8.3 lakh KWH during the year through various energy conservation initiatives.

In addition, the company maintained high levels of sustainable sourcing for raw materials used in operations, according to the report.

CSR Governance and Oversight Mechanism

The annual report states that the company’s CSR activities are supervised by a dedicated CSR Committee of the Board. The committee is responsible for recommending CSR policies, approving projects, reviewing expenditure, and monitoring implementation progress.

The CSR Committee held meetings during the financial year to review project execution and spending patterns. The report highlights that all CSR expenditures were certified by the company’s Chief Financial Officer as being utilised in accordance with statutory CSR provisions.

The company also maintained compliance with Section 135 of the Companies Act, 2013, which governs CSR spending obligations for eligible Indian companies.

According to the report, there were no major governance-related concerns or adverse observations regarding CSR implementation during the year.

Growing Importance of CSR in India’s Corporate Sector

India remains one of the few countries in the world where CSR spending is mandated by law for qualifying companies. Under the Companies Act, eligible firms are required to spend at least 2% of their average net profit on approved social development activities.

Over the years, sectors such as manufacturing, energy, mining, pharmaceuticals, IT, and petrochemicals have significantly increased investments in community development and sustainability initiatives.

Industry experts believe companies are now focusing more on measurable social impact rather than one-time charitable donations. Long-term investments in education, healthcare, skill development, sustainability, and rural infrastructure are increasingly becoming central themes in CSR strategies.

Supreme Petrochem’s FY2025 CSR report reflects this broader shift toward structured and impact-oriented social investment.

Outlook for FY2026

Looking ahead, Supreme Petrochem Limited has already estimated its CSR obligation for the next financial year. According to the annual report, the company expects to spend over Rs 10.21 crore on CSR activities during FY2025-26.

The report suggests that the company plans to continue focusing on education, rural development, healthcare, sanitation, and sustainability-related projects in the coming years.

There is also an increasing emphasis on measuring the long-term effectiveness of CSR initiatives through social impact assessments and project monitoring mechanisms.

As companies face rising expectations from regulators, communities, and investors regarding environmental and social responsibility, CSR spending is likely to remain an important area of corporate governance and public accountability in India’s industrial sector.

For Supreme Petrochem Limited, the FY2025 CSR report presents a picture of continued investment in community welfare, with a focus on balancing industrial growth with local social development.
