New Delhi: Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd serves over 1.4 lakh patients with clinical treatment, whereas more than 78 thousand people were also benefitted under preventive and promotive healthcare services.
The company has invested Rs 2.1 crore in Mobile Medical Unit (MMU) Programme through implementing agencies of Help Age India and Sun Pharma Community Healthcare Society, during FY 2018-19.
Since the average net profit of company for the last three years is negative, the company is not required to allocate any amount towards Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). However, it has voluntarily spent Rs 3.9 crore on CSR activities for the year.
The main objective of healthcare programme is to provide a range of health care services focussed upon maternal and child healthcare for populations living in remote, inaccessible, un-served and underserved areas at the doorsteps of these communities.
The project covered the locations of Ahmednagar in Maharashtra, Halol in Gujarat, Mohali in Punjab, Toansa in Punjab, Paonta Sahib in Himachal Pradesh, Dewas and Malanpur in Madhya Pradesh, Panoli, Karkhadi and Ankleshwar in Gujarat and Madurantakam in Tamilnadu.
The programme also emphasises on reduction in maternal and infant mortality rate, improving health of adolescent girls, prevention and control of communicable and non-communicable diseases, awareness regarding HIV within the community.
The CSR Committee of the company comprises of Dilip S. Shanghvi as Chairman and members like Sudhir V. Valia and Rekha Sethi.
Sun Pharma has also emphasised upon IEC (Information, Education and Communication) activities in various locations considering that construction of toilets is not sufficient if there is no proper awareness within the community regarding the use of toilets.
The company has constructed 216 individual household toilets for unprivileged communities based at Halol, Silvassa, Ahmednagar and Madurantakam with an objective to encourage better health for communities and improved quality of life among people living in rural areas.
Apart from construction of individual household toilets, the company has carried out a Sanitation and Cleanliness Drive across all project locations, which has benefitted the communities at large.
