JHARSUGUDA: It was a proud and very special moment for the members of Subhalaxmi cooperative at Jharsuguda to find renowned social activist and tribal leader Padmashree Dr. Tulasi Munda among them as Chief Guest for their Annual General Body Meeting held today hosted by Subhalami and Vedanta at Jharsuguda.300 women representatives representing more than 3000 cooperative members from 53 villages of Jharsuguda took part in the AGM 2016 to formalise agenda for the current year.
Present on the occasion were Abhijit Pati, CEO-Aluminium Business, Vedanta Ltd. who personally hosted Ms. Munda along with Mrs. Pushpanjali Seth, President Subhalaxmi Cooperative in presence of Anip Kumar Majhi, DRCS, Sambalpur representing the state government and senior officials of Vedanta Jharsuguda.
Munda interacted with the members of Subhalaxmi and the Community Relations teams of Vedanta Jharsuguda and expressed her happiness that Subhalaxmi as a woman cooperative has come a long way in shaping life of rural and tribal women of Jharsuguda.She appreciated the sustained effort of Vedanta at Jharsuguda to nurture the cooperative into a model women empowerment movement. It is a commendable job and corporates should work in this direction she said . She urged Subhalaxmi members to emulate Gandhian way of life and work for the development of their community and villages.
Pati expressed gratitude to Ms. Munda for her presence as a source of inspiration to all present and also mentioned that a word of appreciation from her is an honour to all present which we accept with all humility. He assured Ms. Munda of all support in her struggle for upliftment of tribal communities.
President of the cooperative Mrs. Seth urged Ms. Munda to play advisory role in the cooperative so that a further push to the movement can be given to which Ms. Tulasi Muda agreed.
Majhi, DRCS , Sambalpur also appreciated Subhalaxmi for its success and urged its member to create a role model for the state. Dayanidhi Behera , Head Smelter Operations thanked Ms. Munda for her presence on the occasion in his vote of thanks.
This cooperative was a flagship CSR programme promoted by Vedanta under the sustainable livelihood project “Vedanta Integrated Jana Jivika Yojana” in 2008. It is worth mentioning that, currently Subhalaxmi Cooperative is having a presence in 53 villages with more than 3000 women members in Jharsuguda district running with an integrated livelihood-finance approach extending business development services and market linkage facilities to its members for their Socio-economic empowerment.
