New Delhi: Shell Foundation partners SMV Green Solutions and Sistema bio won Ashden Awards on 3 Jul in London. SMV Green Solutions bagged Ashden Awards in the category of International Sustainable Mobility, and Sistema.bio won in the Clean Cooking category. Established in 2001, the Ashden Awards are globally recognised as a mark of excellence in the field of green energy.
Shell Foundation, which works towards improving access to energy and sustainable mobility, started working with SMV Green Solutions in 2017. Initiated in 2010, SMV Green Solution is currently operating in Allahabad, Varanasi, and Lucknow.
The company aims to empower drivers to buy their vehicles, earn more money by providing reliable contracts, create fair working conditions, and reduce air pollution. They help in upgrading manual rickshaw pullers to e-rickshaw owners and also runs ‘Vahini’ programme that enables women to become drivers of e-rickshaws.
Sistema bio is an international social enterprise which manufactures and distributes high-quality, affordable bio-digesters that enable smallholder farmers to convert animal waste into biogas and biomass fertiliser. The biogas obtained from biodigesters can be used for cooking for smoke-free kitchens.
The goal of Sistema.bio is to create a more sustainable, equitable and waste-free world. It started its operations in India in 2017 with its headquarters in Pune and has installed over 200 units of biodigesters and impacted over 1000 lives in India.
