BHUBNESHWAR – Shapoorji Pallonji Group (SP Group) has contributed INR 5.1 million towards Odishsa Chief Minister’s relief fund for Cyclone Fani affected areas, the company said in a press release.
Puri district has been facing a possible outbreak of cholera which is causing a serious worry for the district administration and hospitals.
The group conducted a 3-day relief camp between 28 May and 30 May, where it distributed essentials and relief materials among the affected families of the district.
Over 240 families received relief kits – 120 families from Mangarajpur village, 60 families from Chakrabati Patna village and 60 families from Utter Bhoi Sahi village in Puri Sadar.
Restoration relief materials like diesel generator set was also provided to the district officials to address the electricity disruption caused by the cyclone.
Gopalpur Port Ltd – an SP Group company also provided basic utilities like flattened rice, 244 boxes of candles and 120 bags of water pouches to the Ganjam district administration for distribution.
The group had previously donated a 1,000-million litres capacity water purification systems to the Puri Medical Hospital, the release said. The RO system will be maintained by SP Group for 5 years and then handed over to the hospital authorities, the release said.
SP Group has “passionately stood” in support of the people who have been affected from the cyclone, Amit Saboo, managing director, SP Port Maintenance Private Ltd. It has contributed towards emergency relief material, financial aid and also looking after basic amenities like water, Saboo said.
“We have contributed to the massive relief work being undertaken by the government of Odisha and have attempted to help the people of the Odisha at the grass root level” he added.
