KOLKATA: A cultural revolution, a great awakening is under way in India, that is dramatically changing what it means to be old. The financially independent India above 60, is slowly but surely realizing that their life is before them and not behind. And that’s where Rukmani Amar Aangan comes in.

With an aim to create a vibrant and self reliant elderly livelihood, Radhakishan Rukmani Devi Poddar Charitable Trust has developed Rukmani Amar Angan – a sprawling, green, senior citizen friendly architecture for the elderly.

On 10 November, 2013 the Rukmani Amar Aangan will open its doors for the first time. Managed as a non-profit institution by the Radhakishan Rukmani Devi Poddar Charitable Trust, Rukmani Amar Aangan is set amidst 30,000 sq ft of lush greenery off Diamond Harbour Road, Khariberia, Bishnupur, 24 Parganas (S).

With 30 twin-sharing, fully furnished rooms, supported with modern amenities and attached bathrooms, Rukmani Amar Aangan houses all the comforts of a home amidst a user friendly neighbourhood with Banks, ATMs, Post office, hospitals etc.

The Bharat Sevasram hospital & Akshaya Dham Temple are just minutes away. With state-of-the-art lifestyle and healthcare facilities with a temple and meditation arrangements, Rukmani Amar Aangan has adequate safety and security, 24×7 DG power back up, wi-fi connectivity  etc.

The security features and the senior friendly architecture are designed to the last detail, keeping in mind an exclusive elderly environment. It features a doctors’ room, dining room, community and recreation room, library, kitchen, visitors’ area, temple and landscaped garden. To promote the concept of healthy and active ageing, Rukmani Amar Aangan offers a wide choice of indoor games, companionship, comfort and security in the midst of a sprawling lush green environment.

Rukmani Amar Aangan is unprecedented in that it provides affordable  accommodations far ahead of any other senior citizen home in the region. With fully furnished air-conditioned rooms, the convenience of satellite TV, broadband connectivity and other provisions in each room, it promises to be an experience unlike any other and an attempt to give the elderly the care, love and respect in their twilight years.
