MUMBAI (India CSR): Honourable Minister Piyush Goyal inaugurated the Malabar Group’s new food distribution initiative at Shatabdi Hospital, Kandivali. The programme aims to serve 500 nutritious meals daily to families of patients, addressing food insecurity among those dealing with medical challenges.
Expanding Hunger Relief Efforts
This initiative builds on Malabar Group’s ongoing efforts in Maharashtra. The Malabar Charitable Trust is already distributing 6,300 food packets daily across the state. With the addition of the Kandivali programme, the Trust is now providing 6,800 meals each day, supporting vulnerable communities throughout the region.
Nationwide and Global Impact
The ‘Hunger-Free World’ initiative is a major CSR project by Malabar Group aimed at tackling hunger across India and abroad. Currently, the programme distributes over 60,000 meals daily, with 50,000 meals served across 16 Indian states and 10,000 meals provided in Zambia, targeting schoolchildren and underserved communities.
Educational Support for Children
Beyond food distribution, Malabar Group integrates education into their CSR efforts. Through 247 micro learning centres (MLCs), the initiative reaches over 11,000 underprivileged children in India, providing basic education and daily nutrition. These centres help children from disadvantaged backgrounds return to formal schooling, ensuring a brighter future.
Commitment to Social Welfare
At the event, MP Ahammed, Chairman of Malabar Group, stated, “Today marks a key milestone in our ongoing mission. By extending our Hunger-Free World initiative to Shatabdi Hospital, we are not only providing 500 meals daily to families in need but also underscoring our commitment to improving lives through food security.” He further added, “With 60,000 meals now being served daily in India and Zambia, we are proud to play a part in the global fight against hunger.”
The initiative aligns with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal 2 – Zero Hunger. Malabar Group’s CSR extends to various social welfare projects, including care for orphaned elderly women and educational support for female students, with over Rs. 263 crore already invested.
