NEW DELHI: The recent incident of IAS officer Mukesh Pandey committed suicide due to family discord, has highlighted the grave issue of Chronic Depression in the country. As per report of World Health Organisation on depression, India is the most depressed country in the world. Over five crore Indians suffer from depression and over three crore others suffer from anxiety disorders.
With higher number of Depression Patient, India is the major contributor to global suicides. About 800000 people commit suicide worldwide every year, of these 135,000 (17%) are residents of India, a nation with 17.5% of world population.
