Ray Stevenson, the Northern Irish actor who played the villainous British governor in the Indian blockbuster RRR, has died at the age of 58.


Stevenson’s death was confirmed by his representatives on Sunday, just four days before his birthday, leaving fans and the entertainment industry in shock and disbelief. The cause of his death has not been released, adding to the somber nature of his untimely passing. However, amidst the sadness, it is important to remember the extraordinary career and contributions of this Northern Irish actor.

Early Career and Breakthrough

Ray Stevenson was a Northern Irish actor who had a successful career in film and television. He was born in Lisburn, Northern Ireland, in 1964. He began his acting career in the early 1990s, appearing in a number of British television shows. He made his film debut in 1998 with a small role in the historical drama Elizabeth.

Stevenson’s breakout role came in 2004, when he was cast as the character of Titus Pullo in the HBO series Rome. He starred in the show for two seasons, and his performance earned him critical acclaim.

Stevenson went on to have a successful career in film and television. He starred in the 2008 Marvel film Punisher: Warzone, and he played the character of Volstagg in the Thor films. He also had a recurring role on the Starz series Black Sails.

  • Black Sails (2014-2017): Stevenson had a recurring role as Captain Charles Vane in this Starz series about pirates. He was praised for his performance, which was both charismatic and villainous.
  • Ahsoka (2023): Stevenson was cast as the main antagonist in this upcoming Star Wars series. However, he died before filming began, and his role was recast.
