HYDERABAD: National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC) Limited, Hyderabad has been bestowed with National Safety Award (Mines) for the year 2011 for its Bailadila Iron Ore Mine (BIOM), Bacheli Complex for the longest accident-free period.
The award was received by Shri.Narendra Kothari, Chairman-cum-Managing Director, NMDC Limited and P R G Nair, Senior most nominated workmen representative, from President of India, Pranab Mukherjee, at the presentation ceremony of the National Safety Awards (Mines) for the year 2011 & 2012 held at New Delhi on Saturday.
The award was received in presence of the Minister of State for Labour and Employment (Independent Charge), Bandaru Dattatreya and others. Speaking on the occasion, Kothari said the award was in recognition for implementing most scientific methods of mining at all projects to ensure zero accidents.
“NMDC is producing more than 30 million tonnes of iron ore from its highly mechanised mines i.e. BIOM, Bacheli Complex; BIOM, Kirandul Complex and DIOM and Kumaraswamy, Donimalai. It is also operating mechanised diamond mine at Panna, Madhya Pradesh. NMDC has obtained OHSAS 18001:2007 accreditations for all its production mines” Narendra Kothari informed.
