He started the business in 1960 with the brand Essco and later launched the Jaquar brand in 1986 with his sons Rajesh Mehra, Ajay Mehra and Krishan Mehra. He named the brand after his grandmother Jai Kaur. Early Life and Education

NL Mehra was born on December 12 December 2015 in a small village in Punjab, India. He was the youngest of five children. His father was a farmer and his mother was a homemaker. Mehra received his early education in a local village school. In 1950, he moved to Delhi to pursue higher education. He graduated from the University of Delhi with a degree in commerce in 1954.

Early Career

After graduating from college, Mehra worked for a few years in a small trading company. In 1960, he founded his own company, Essco, which manufactured faucets and other bathroom fittings. The company was a success, and Mehra soon became a leading figure in the Indian sanitary ware industry.

The Jaquar Brand

In 1986, Mehra launched the Jaquar brand of bathroom and lighting fixtures. The brand was named after his grandmother, Jai Kaur.
