Mental Health Foundation launched by Mpower in Mumbai

MUMBAI: Mpower – a pioneer in the mental healthcare industry of India from The Aditya Birla Education Trust, in its quest to create awareness and alleviate stigma around mental health illnesses, today launched the Mpower Foundation at Tardeo in Mumbai.

Any individual, regardless of socio-economic status, gender, disability, age, religion, caste, or sexual orientation will now benefit from services such as counselling, psychotherapy, psychiatric consultation, workshops and training provided by mental health professionals.

Inaugurated on the occasion of World Suicide Prevention Day, ‘Mpower – The Foundation will be spearheaded by Dr. Ambrish Dharmadhikari, Head – Medical Services (Psychiatrist), Mpower ‘. The team also consists of Mayuri Sangharajka, Psychologist & Head – Mpower – The Foundation.

The Mpower Foundation is a step towards ensuring that every individual has the right to quality mental health care in India. Services are available for children and the youth with emotional concerns, behavioural concerns, relationship concerns, school-related concerns, learning difficulties, ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, sensory issues, and other concerns.

With the certificate issued by the IRDAI on mental health now included under health insurance, conversations about mental health are on the rise. Now, more than ever, the need to sensitize our country is increasing. Mpower has been spearheading the movement to affect change in the society and encourage people to talk more about mental health. With the launch of the Mpower Foundation, Mpower is now making mental health inclusive by offering services for everybody who needs help.

Commenting on the launch of the Mpower Foundation, Neerja Birla, Founder and Chairperson, Mpower, said, “We are proud to announce the launch of the Mpower Foundation that will make mental healthcare services available to everyone regardless of their socio-economic status. At Mpower, we want to ensure that all individuals and their families have the right to professional therapeutic interventions. Our efforts have been towards creating a movement towards empowering individuals with mental health concerns in the most holistic way possible. Every individual has the right to quality mental health care and that every mind matters.”

Speaking on the launch of the Mpower Foundation, Dr. Ambrish Dharmadhikari, Psychiatrist & Head – Medical Services, Mpower – The Foundation, said, “Mental wellness is as important as physical wellbeing for the effective functioning and overall development of every individual. With the launch of the Mpower – The Foundation, we hope to reach out to the economically challenged and create awareness about mental health in India.”

The brainchild of Neerja Birla, Mpower since its inception 2 years ago, has been at the forefront to affect change and proactively champion the cause of mental health, create awareness, advocate prevention and provide services with a professional, holistic and multi-disciplinary approach in India.
