BHUBANESHWAR: Jindal Steel & Power Ltd (JSPL) through its CSR arm JSPL Foundation provided one lakh cooked meals to the victims of Cyclone Fani in Puri. The Company started the service on May 10, 2019 and continued for 10 days. Every day, 10000 meals were served.
In coordination with the district administration of Puri, A centralized kitchen was set up at Puri Zilla School, in which meals were cooked. Cooked food was carried to different localities, identified by the district administration, for distribution among people by the government officials and government identified volunteers. The cooked hot meals were served twice a day. More than 100,000 people, especially those in interior and slum areas, were benefited by this effort.
Speaking on the occasion, JSPL Foundation’s Co-Chairperson Shallu Jindal said, “What people of Puri have lost because of Cyclone Fani is irreparable. We just made an attempt to extend a helping hand to the district administration and people of Puri during this difficult time. We are thankful to Govt of Odisha for giving an opportunity to reach the needy during the calamity. Praying Lord Jagannath to give strength to the cyclone impacted people to revive their lives soon”.
For initial three days, Khichdi and veg-biriyani were served. Later on the menu was changed to rice, dal and chutney. JSPL officials supervised the activities regularly and ensured that appropriate quality and hygiene is maintained.
Besides these, the Foundation also supported rice, dal and vegetable for 5000 meals, for people living in severely damaged localities of Puri town. The materials were handed over to the local volunteers by JSPL’s Executive VP and Group Head (CSR, Education & Sustainability) Prashant Kumar Hota.
In addition to these, the TRB Iron Ore Mines of the Company provided 50000 liters of drinking water and Angul unit of the steelmaker has also supplied cement and construction material for repairing of public buildings.
