Keonjhar/Bhubaneswar: Jindal Steel & Power Ltd (JSPL)’s Barbil Unit felicitated the winners of recently concluded National Martial Arts Games (NMAG) – 2016 at Goregaon, Maharashtra from 19- 22 May, 2016. EVP & Unit Head of JSPL Barbil Unit – T S Shanbhogue presented a sports kit to each of the winners.
JSPL Foundation promoted nine rural sport talents had participated in this national championship and won Eight Gold & One Silver medal. Congratulating the winners and their Coach Pankaj Mahanta, Shanbhogue said, “It is a matter of pride for Keonjhar and JSPL Foundation that the rural talents have once again brought laurels in the National Championship. It shows rural students, given an opportunity, can excel in global competitions. I wish all the best to the team and hope they will bring more medals in global competitions”.
The team has secured their eligibility for participation in International Martial Art Games to be held at Delhi. A team of 9 Kick-Boxing players of Sialijoda and Gobardhanpur village under Deojhar Gram Panchyat in Joda Block of Keonjhar district had participated in the Game (https://www.spidersolitairemasters.net/) with their Coach.
Gura Munda (senior 51 kg), Rajesh Munda (Sr. 57 kg), BabluMunda (Sub. Jr, 37 kg),Manju Munda (Jr. 48 kg), MuktaMunda (Jr. 44 kg), PhulmatiMunda (Jr. 48 kg), KitmaiMunda (Sub. Jr. 32 kg) and ChundriPurty (Sr. 48 kg) category bagged Gold, Ramesh Munda (Jr. 50 kg) category won Silver medal. Vergil Lakra, AGM CSR Dept. coordinated the felicitation programme.
Among others V C S Rao, R K Mohanty, Manas Dash Sashank Pattnayk, Bhuwan Pratap, S Ghosh, Dr. K P Behera were also present on the occasion to encourage the winners.
It may be noted that more than 100 tribal students (boys and girls from age group of 7 -14 years) from the villages of Deojhar panchayat are learning and practicing Kick-Boxing and Wushu under Coach Pankaj the coaching and Mahanta over the past six years at Sialijoda.
JSPL Foundation, led by Smt. Shallu Jindal has been pursuing its mission for promoting sports and athletics among tribal youth by way of providing all sort of infrastructure and coaching facilities for the rural sports talents to shine in National & International level. These talents have also participated in many National Level championships and brought laurels.
