JK Tyre remains committed to the cause of road safety

India CSR Network

NEW DELHI: JK Tyre & Industries Ltd has been actively promoting the cause of Road Safety & Tyre Safety for the past many years. This year as always together with Delhi Traffic Police and the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) kickstarted the National Road Safety Week 2017 in New Delhi, which is held under the aegis of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.

The seven-day event with a host of activities aimed at spreading awareness about the importance of safe driving on Indian roads commenced with a walkathon from Rajpath on Monday, flagged off by Nitin Gadkari, Hon’ble Minister of Road Transport & Highways and Shipping, and attended by Ashok Gajapathi Raju, Minister for Aviation; Hansraj Ahir, Minister of State for Home Affairs; and Alok Verma, Commissioner, Delhi Police. Senior officials from JK Tyre & Industries Ltd., including Pradyumna Pandey and Ajoy Shah took part in the walk

The activities during the week include volunteer deployment at prominent locations in the capital city carrying Road Safety messages. In addition various awareness camps and nukkad nataks (street plays) are being organised.

Nitin Gadkari, Minister of Road Transport & Highways and Shipping, spoke about the importance of safe driving emphasising on heightening public awareness on the subject and lauded the efforts of stakeholders.

About 1.5 lakh people were killed in road accidents in the country last year, a 4.6% increase from the year before. Awareness about basic rules to be observed while driving can help reduce this number and prevent near-fatal accidents from happening. JK Tyre has been at the forefront of driving this awareness and has trained about 11,000 school bus drivers across 426 schools, and conducted inspection of 11,586 school buses in the past 6 years. It has organised road safety awareness camps at many schools across the country, and among its own employees.

JK Tyre has continued to push for safe driving particularly among truck drivers, educating more than 40,000 drivers at training programmes held annually throughout the country. The company’s campaign, ‘Drive Safely, Drive Responsibly, Stay in Total Control’, has won wide acclaim and is one of the endeavours that have raised considerable awareness among drivers about the importance of tyres as the only direct point of contact between a vehicle and the road. JK Tyre has also engaged lawmakers by partnering with the Constitution Club of India in the annual Parliamentarian’s Car Rally.

Vikram Malhotra, Marketing Director-JK Tyre & Industries limited, said, “As a responsible automotive tyre manufacturer, JK tyre is committed to the cause of Tyre and Road safety. We have been creating awareness on Road Safety for the past many years and will continue to partner various stakeholders to sustain this important initiative. We have a multi-faceted programme, which we conduct throughout the country aimed at all sections of the society”
