BHUBANESWAR (India CSR): Jindal Steel and Power (JSP) has unveiled an ambitious plan to invest an additional Rs 70,000 crore in Odisha, further solidifying its commitment to the state’s industrial development and socio-economic upliftment. The announcement was made by Naveen Jindal, Chairman of JSP, during the Utkarsh Odisha Conclave – 2025 in Bhubaneswar, attended by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Odisha’s Chief Minister Shri Mohan Charan Majhi.
A Vision for Industrial Growth
JSP’s investment plan includes exploring the potential to establish a state-of-the-art steel plant in Keonjhar District. This aligns with the vision of Odisha’s leadership to position the state as a global hub for industrial innovation and sustainable practices.
“Our vision is to make Odisha a global industrial leader while consistently improving the quality of life for its people,” said Mr. Naveen Jindal. “This additional Rs 70,000 crore investment will not only drive industrial growth but also uplift the lives of thousands of families in Odisha, contributing to India’s journey toward self-reliance.”

The Angul Steel Plant, a cornerstone of JSP’s operations in Odisha, is a testament to the company’s focus on sustainability. With a capacity currently at 6 MTPA (million tonnes per annum) and plans to scale to 12 MTPA by the end of the year, it is poised to reach 25.2 MTPA by 2030. This growth will establish it as the world’s largest and greenest steel plant, leveraging hydrogen-based green steel production to set a benchmark in sustainable steel manufacturing.
Odisha as a Catalyst for India’s Growth
The Utkarsh Odisha Conclave emphasized the state’s strategic role in driving India’s economic progress. Collaboration between public and private sectors was highlighted as a critical factor in achieving sustainable development goals.
JSP’s pioneering efforts include operating India’s first coal gasification plant for steel production at Angul, reducing dependence on imported coking coal and paving the way for innovative, eco-friendly industrial practices.
Commitment to Social Transformation
Beyond industrial achievements, JSP has demonstrated a decade-long commitment to community development in Odisha. The company has invested ₹900 crore in sustainable social initiatives across key areas:
- Healthcare: Building better medical infrastructure and providing access to quality healthcare services.
- Education: Supporting schools, scholarships, and skill development programs to empower youth.
- Women Empowerment: Initiatives aimed at fostering independence and economic opportunities for women.
- Rural Livelihoods: Promoting sustainable livelihoods through vocational training and resource support.
- Cultural Support: Encouraging sports, art, and culture to enrich local communities.

Transforming Odisha’s Future
JSP’s investments are set to not only drive industrial innovation but also contribute to improving the socio-economic landscape of Odisha. The company’s efforts reflect its alignment with India’s broader vision of self-reliance (Atmanirbhar Bharat) and sustainable development.
By combining cutting-edge technology, strategic investments, and community-centric initiatives, JSP continues to lead as a catalyst for change in Odisha, making a lasting impact on the lives of its people.
