New Delhi – Vedanta ltd indicated 8 cases of sexual harassment in FY 2018-19, the annual report of the company says.
However, the company has constituted a policy on prevention, prohibition and redressal of Sexual Harassment at workplace which endeavors to encourage women professionals by creating proper policies to tackle issues relating to safe working conditions, maintain a healthy and conducive work environment which is free from discrimination.
The legislation of India has also provided a penal provision for safety of women at their work places through Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace Act, 2013.
According to a FICCI-EY November 2015 report, 36% of Indian companies and 25% among MNCs are not compliant with the Sexual Harassment Act, 2013.
The government has threatened to take stern action against employers who fail to comply with this law.
In this regard, the company provides safety & skill up-gradation training of 34,183 hours, 293,796 hours, and 14,238 hours to the employees, contract workers and third-party visitors respectively.
Vedanta has zero tolerance for sexual harassment at workplace and has adopted a policy on prevention, prohibition and redressal of sexual harassment at workplace in line with the provisions of the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace Act, 2013 and the Rules thereunder for prevention and redressal of complaints of sexual harassment at workplace.
In FY19, out of 8 cases reported, 7 cases were upheld, found correct and closed.
