Unprecedented Funding Success

In a groundbreaking achievement, IIT Madras has secured a remarkable funding amount of Rs 231 crore in FY2022-23. This milestone represents the highest funding the institute has ever received in a single financial year, signifying its growing prominence and support within its community. The surge in funding is an impressive 76 percent higher than the previous fiscal year, highlighting the increased backing and trust in IIT Madras’ mission.

Impactful Utilization of Funds

The major portion of the raised funds, totaling Rs 96 crore, was generously donated by alumni and individual donors from across India and around the world. These contributions have a far-reaching impact, fostering cutting-edge research across various social impact themes, advancing infrastructure development, facilitating student scholarships, and establishing Chair Professorships to promote research excellence in specific areas. The funding serves as a catalyst for driving innovation and societal progress.

Corporate Partnerships and CSR Growth

IIT Madras has also forged strong collaborations with corporate entities, which have significantly contributed to its fundraising success. Grants from the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds of corporations experienced a remarkable growth of over 56 percent compared to the previous year, thanks to partnerships with 40 new organizations. These collaborations have enabled IIT Madras to undertake impactful projects focused on education, health, water sanitation, and other critical domains.

The Alumni’s Multi-Dimensional Support

Kaviraj Nair, the CEO of the Office of Institutional Advancement at IIT Madras, highlights the various ways in which alumni contribute to the institute’s growth. Alumni support extends beyond financial contributions, encompassing domain expertise, technical knowledge, and valuable professional networks. Their involvement enhances the overall infrastructure development on the campus, including the establishment of innovation hubs, state-of-the-art indoor sports complexes, and sustainable initiatives such as the adoption of electric buses for campus transportation.

Driving Social Impacts

With the backing of CSR funds, IIT Madras currently oversees 94 faculty-backed projects working towards significant social impacts, ranging from education and health to water sanitation. These initiatives leverage the expertise and resources available within the institute to address pressing societal challenges, making a tangible difference in the lives of communities.

Conclusion
