BARODA: Huntsman Textile Effects, the leading global provider of high quality dyes, chemicals and digital inks to the textiles related industries was awarded the Antyodaya Award by Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda for its Corporate Social Responsibility initiative – Anandi as part of Sayaji Startup Summit 2018.
The award was conferred by Rajendra Trivedi, Speaker, Gujarat Legislative Assembly amidst the august presence of various dignitaries of the university.
The company’s Corporate Social Responsibility program helps local communities by focusing on education, health, water and animal husbandry. The Joyful Learning initiative by Huntsman, known as ‘Anandi’ has directly benefited 2000 school children, more than 200 adolescents from rural communities in Gujarat, more than 32 workers from 19 Anganwadis, several primary schools and over 1000 families since its inception.
“At Huntsman we have a very strong vision for community development and social stewardship is a vital element in the areas we operate in,” said Nipun Soni, Site Head –Baroda, Global Engineering Manager and PSM Leader. He also added, “We thank Maharaja Sayajirao University for recognizing the impact created through the Huntsman CSR initiative – Anandi’s exemplary contribution to the society. We will continue our commitment towards empowering children through meaningful education and creating a brighter future for the children of tomorrow.”
The Anandi program is in line with Sarva Shiksha Abhiyaan which works on quality education for all with a special focus on activity based learnings in schools. Through the program, the company has built science laboratories in primary schools, worked on capacity building of teachers as well as sponsored computers to teachers in villages and hosted children summer camps to keep them engaged.
The initiative also includes several other programs such as enhancing early childhood education in Anganwadis. It also offers life skills education for adolescents and supports girls through regular multi-day vocational programs with an aim to develop an entrepreneurial spirit to make them independent. In addition to education, the program also focuses on providing potable water to villages and generating livelihood through agriculture and animal husbandry.
The initiative aims to improve the quantity and quality of the cattle in order to increase income for dairy farmers, especially womenfolk. Farmers are also educated about modern technologies, organic fertilisers and exposure to educational tours.
In the past, Huntsman was conferred upon with the ‘Best CSR Project in Education’ by India CSR Community Initiative Awards and the 100 most impactful CSR leaders award in 2016. It has also won the ICC award for Social Responsibility in 2014.
