India CSR News Network

MUMBAI: Hinduja Foundation today said that it has committed to plant one lakh tree saplings in the Jawhar village of Maharashtra starting July 1, 2016.

As concerns on environmental resources and their preservation increases, Hinduja Foundation has pledged its support to the Govt. of Maharashtra on the occasion of India’s annual tree-planting festival, Van Mahotsav.

Brig H Chukerbuti (Retd.), Executive Vice President, Hinduja Foundation said, “At Hinduja Foundation, we believe that philanthropy is a sacred social responsibility of all enterprises. The Hinduja Foundation in a variety of ways is consciously fostering eco-friendly way of life. This year, in concert with the Maharashtra Government’s focus on augmenting green cover, Hinduja Foundation, in an ambitious program has increased its tree planting program. For the initiative, we will be planting close to one lakh saplings in the five villages of Jawhar taluka adopted by us”.

He further added, “With global changes and human factors altering the course of the earth’s long-term sustainability, it is only pertinent that we focus on finding ways to counteract these effects.”

The pilot drive begins on July 1 and will be spread over a month. Close to 200 employees from several companies of Hinduja Group such as Indusind Media, Gulf Oil, Hinduja Hospital and Hinduja Healthcare will be seen participating in the tree plantation programme. The activity commences in Tilonda – Bhamberpada followed by Pimpalshet, Kharonda, Ozer and Chambharshet respectively. Hinduja Foundation will plant the saplings of teakwood, glycridia, mangium, sababul, mango and cashew trees across these five villages adopted by them. As a part of the program, the Foundation will be providing saplings, fertilizers and organizing digging pits.

Hinduja Foundation has an extensive rural development project for the tribal areas of Jawhar block of Palghar district. These CSR activities of the Foundation are in synergy with Maharashtra Government agencies (Addl. Collector, BDO) and gram panchayats to enhance effectiveness of their delivery. A PPP Agreement is also in place between the Hinduja Foundation and the Additional Collector, Jawhar to ensure its smooth functioning. Some of the activities that are a part of the project include programs for women empowerment, water management, and sanitary provisions to households.

In addition to this, Hinduja Foundation has actively been assisting 100 families of Pimpalshet village of Jawhar Taluka for their nourishment and sustenance with 500 kitchen garden trees and plants like papaya, drum-stick tree, lemon, hadga and curry patha shrub.

Hinduja Foundation has actively been involved in the well-being of the society through its social welfare programs. Last year, more than 16,000 seeds were planted by them in the district as part of their CSR initiative. As they commit their support for the first time to the Maharashtra Government in their 2 crore plantation drive, it highlights the importance Hinduja Foundation dedicates to towards seeing a better tomorrow.
