Social organization Grow-Trees has announced its commitment to planting 3 million trees in India in 2023. The organization, which has planted over 17 million trees in 23 states in India since its inception in 2010, aims to mitigate the impact of climate change and biodiversity loss through eco-sensitive afforestation.
Grow-Trees’ projects, which address issues such as pollution, biodiversity loss, and flood control, have also created employment opportunities and supported local economies.
In addition to its work in India, the organization has also taken up mangrove plantation drives in coastal areas of various states and is supporting refugees and local communities in Uganda through its “Trees for Refugee Wellness” project.
Grow-Trees is also encouraging individuals to get involved in its plantation efforts by gifting trees to loved ones.
“According to a 2021 globalforestwatch report, between 2002 and 2021, India lost 371kha of the humid primary forest, making up to 19% of its total tree cover loss. The humid primary forest also decreased by 3.6%. This is why every tree that is planted by citizens, collectives and social organizations like ours, can change the environmental outlook from bleak to hopeful.” said Bikrant Tiwary, CEO of Grow-Trees.
