GKEL holds mass plantation drive on World Environment Day

DHENKANA (Odisha): GMR Kamalanga Energy Limited (GKEL), a GMR Group company, has so far planted around 2,18,885 saplings in its plant and township area and has set a target to plant 41,000 saplings by 2016.
As part of green initiative, GKEL is also distributing and planting saplings periphery villages and schools in Mangalpur Panchayat.
GMR Kamalanga Energy Limited (GKEL), a GMR Group company, which operates 1050 MW coal-fired power plant at Kamalanga in Dhenkanal district of Odisha, celebrated World Environment Day by initiating a mass plantation drive at the plant premises to create awareness and express their commitment towards the environmental sustainability.
Employees from GKEL, Raxa Security Services, GMR Varalakshmi Foundation, agency workers and periphery villagers participated in the mass planation drive and planted 2,500 saplings in a record time of 1,380 seconds. During this occasion, the plant head distributed 100 mango saplings to the local villagers. GKEL will conduct series of programs including quiz & speech competitions and trainings during the week-long celebration which will be culminated, on June 11, 2016.
Inaugurating the celebration, Nageswara Rao S, Plant Head, highlighted the issue of environmental degradation as a result of vast consumption of natural resources resulting to global warming and as a threat to survival of flora and fauna. “Our responsibility is to keep environment healthy for our future. GKEL is committed towards protecting the environment through this type of initiatives,” he said.
Among others, Prabinda Pani, AVP (O&M), Santosh Sahu, GM ((EHS), Susanta Sahoo, AGM (EHS), Sushil Choudhury, GM (Civil) and Srijit Mishra, GM (HR) were present during the occasion.
