DHENKANAL (Odisha): The 67th Independence Day was celebrated in the premises of GMR Kamalanga Energy Limited (GKEL) with much zeal and zest on Thursday. Mr. Sanatan Senapati, General Manager, Security of GKEL joined as the Chief Guest and unfurled the National Flag. Mr. Senapati had received guard of honour from Raxa employees and other security personnel. The entire GKEL family attended the programme. The premises of GKEL was decorated and air of festivity prevailed throughout the day.
Wishing on the Day to people of Mangalpur Panchayat and all employees , Mr. Senapati said “Dhenkanal is going to be a power hub of the State in future and GMR Kamalanga Energy Limited is one of the key contributors for this upcoming status. We are very obliged to the local communities who have been supporting us to build this wonderful national asset in Dhenkanal district, which will help the state and nation akin for the economy growth.” Mr. Senapati also praised the company’s activities especially those under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to improve quality of life in periphery villages and eulogized all employees, including SEPCO, for their valuable contribution for setting up this project.
Senior officials of GKEL like Mr. Sudhir Kumar Das, Associate General Manager (HR and Administration), Mr. Gopal Krishna, DGM, Raxa, Mr, Hemchandra Jena, DGM, Raxa, Dolagobind Meher, GM (Control & Instrumentation) were among the dignitaries present on the occasion.
The Independence Day was also celebrated in nine periphery villages of the project. GMR’s CSR arm GMR Varalakshmi Foundation (GMRVF) distributed sweets to 1800 children which included eight UP schools, one Saraswati Sishu Vidya Mandir, two high schools and 16 anganwadi centres. Different mesmerizing cultural programmes were organized for school children which included fancy dress, debate and patriotic song competitions and prizes were distributed to 21 students. One Photo exhibition was organized in which different photos on life and works of Gandhijee, evolution of the nation flag, photos of freedom fighters along with the information about them were displayed to the students of Manpur primary school.
Similarly, twelve students of 2 high schools (Kamalanga and Mangalpur panchayat High Schools) who passed the 10th board exam in 1st class received cash award of Rs 1000.00 each from GMRVF .Two students who excelled in mathematics Olympiad also were honored by GMRVF with cash awards. On the Independence Day, before the first light of the sun had dawned, the GMRVF vehicle went round the villages playing the ‘Vaishnava Janato’ and ‘Raghupathi Raghava Rajaram’ (Ram Dhun).
Attending as chief guest at Kamalanga High School, Mr. Jayanta Kumar Mohanty, Programme Leader, GMRVF, wished all the school students, teachers including School Management Committee members, for their patriotic and nationalistic spirit.
