PUNE: In an endeavour to provide access to clean drinking water, Belden has initiated a key sustainable intervention to support a village near its recently opened facility at Chakan, Pune (Maharashtra).
In its commitment to corporate citizenship, Belden plans to install a RO plant at a nearby village Bhamboli that would provide clean and safe drinking water to nearly 850 people in the village.
Belden Inc., a global leader in signal transmission and security solutions for mission-critical application in enterprise and industrial markets, recently opened its state-of-the-art manufacturing facility at Chakan and announced its first Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activity that would empower villagers of Bhamboli.
The company announced the installation of an RO plant at the manufacturing plant’s inauguration on November 15, which was attended by the representatives of the village as well. The RO plant’s capacity is 1,500 litres per hour and will be operational for 16 hours each day. It will supply 24,000 litres of treated water every day to provide nearly 150 litres of safe drinking water to every family of the village.
Ashish Chand, Managing Director Belden Asia Pacific said, “Chakan is a manufacturing hub and Belden is proud to be part of it. Hence, we are committed to the holistic development of the area. Villagers are in critical need of safe drinking water. The company, under its CSR activities, wants to transform the lives of people who are in the vicinity and need support.”
This initiative is one of the many programs we’ve implemented to support our communities globally. Other activities have included Belden’s drug recovery program called Pathways to Employment and increasing awareness and providing work opportunities for the Hong Kong Society for the Blind.
Villages in the Chakan area are surrounded by several big manufacturing units. For social development, villagers look forward to the support from these companies.
“We are really touched by the gesture of Belden, as the company itself came forward to help us with a much-needed safe drinking water facility. Villagers feel very obliged with Belden’s commitment toward social responsibility,” said Sagar Nikhade, Sarpanch, Bhamboli.
“We have faced the problem of limited access to clean and safe drinking water for a long time. Now, with Belden’s support, villagers will, at any time, get clean water for their family,” said DevidasRaut, Deputy Sarpanch of the village.
The new facility of the company is credited with being the first truly ‘One Belden’ factory, with capabilities to serve multiple customer markets and applications of the Belden group of brands. The company plans to scale up its CSR activities here to contribute holistic socio-economic development of the area.
