NEW DELHI (India CSR): Garnier, a leading global beauty brand, has joined the Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban to strengthen its sustainability commitments, focusing on reducing, reusing, and recycling plastic waste. This collaboration will support the Mission’s “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” (RRR) Centers, which serve as central collection points for recyclable materials.

Milestone in Garnier’s Green Beauty Journey

This marks a milestone in Garnier’s Green Beauty journey, which includes the collection of plastic waste across India in partnership with Plastics for Change. As part of its Green Beauty program, Garnier is committed to creating sustainable solutions, encouraging consumers to take One Green Step towards a greener future.

Government Applauds Public-Private Collaboration

Speaking about the collaboration, Ms. Roopa Mishra, Joint Secretary and National Mission Director, Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MOHUA) said, “We are happy to partner with Garnier in our collective effort to reduce plastic waste and promote better waste management practices across the country. This partnership exemplifies the power to drive change through strong collaborations between government initiatives and the private sector.”

Beach Clean-Up Drives Kick Off Partnership

The partnership kicked off with beach clean-up drives with thousands of student volunteers across multiple cities, including Mumbai, Chennai, Vizag, Pondicherry, Puri, Goa, Mangalore, and Kasargod. John Abraham, Garnier India’s long-standing brand ambassador volunteered time for a beach clean-up in Chennai.

John Abraham Supports Clean and Green India

“I’m honored to support Garnier’s commitment to Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban and work towards the vision of building clean, green and litter free cities,” said John Abraham, Garnier India’s long-term Brand Ambassador. ” Through individual and collective day to day action such as segregating our waste, recycling and reusing items, we can build a cleaner India. I’m excited to contribute to this important initiative. Together, let’s take one green step every day towards building a cleaner India.”

Garnier’s Long-Term Partnership with Plastics for Change

Since 2020, Garnier has been partnering with Plastics for Change to collect and recycle plastic, while enabling informal waste collectors, waste entrepreneurs, and their families to earn a stable income and improve their overall livelihood. In November 2022, Garnier opened its first plastic waste collection center in Chennai, India. To make collection services accessible to all, Garnier has set up plastic collection kiosks across 20 prominent locations in Mumbai, Chennai, and Delhi, encouraging consumers to take their #OneGreenStep. Till date, through this partnership, Garnier has collected ~900 tonnes of plastic. In 2025 alone, Garnier aims to collect ~1000 tonnes of plastic.

Community Empowerment Through Plastic Collection

The collection centers also contribute to empowering the lives of waste collectors through the Plastics for Change plastic collection model. Today, through financial inclusion, housing, education, and access to healthcare, the lives of ~15,000 members of the community have been positively impacted.

Garnier Reinforces Sustainability Commitment

Ajay Simha, General Manager, Garnier India, said, “At Garnier, sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. Our Green Beauty initiative is designed to bring about real change, and our collaboration with the Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban is a key part of that commitment. By encouraging consumers to take One Green Step towards sustainability, we are actively reducing ocean-bound plastic waste and creating a positive impact on the environment. Through our partnership with Plastics for Change and now, the Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban, we not only reinforce Garnier’s role as a leader in sustainable beauty, but also empower communities to make a tangible difference in the fight against plastic pollution.”

Garnier’s Cruelty-Free Commitment

Since March 2021, all Garnier products are officially approved by Cruelty-Free International under the Leaping Bunny Programme, to end animal testing.
