First Ever Sustainable Business Report of Aditya Birla Group

We can only have sustainable world if we create sustainable businesses and only sustainable businesses will survive in the constraints of a truly sustainable world.

Aditya Birla Group, an Indian global conglomerate, has developed Sustainable Business Framework to improve business management system across value chains, and it has released its first ever Sustainable Business Report –Building Sustainable Businesses Fit for a Sustainable World. The report gives an insight into the process that has undergone to develop and implement a group-wide sustainable strategy over the last few years.

The model and framework on Sustainable Business have designed to provide mechanism of the Group to look at on impact on world and examine those areas that have the potential to impact the survival of their businesses.

The framework is an endeavour to align with international standards and then use strategic alliances to help leaders to understand the challenges –legal, physical, technological and structural that they will face.

The report showcase the good work from across the Group, including the thinking of leaders, to propel businesses to succeed and be prepared for the future. The report also engage with industry and experts in enhancing the conversation and practices of businesses that are fit to function in a sustainable world.

In a message at the report, Chairman of the Aditya Birla Group –Kumar Mangalam Birla says, “I have set an ambitious vision for the Aditya Birla Group to become the leading Indian conglomerate in sustainable business practices across all our operations. The scientific evidence is clear and it is very likely that the needs of a sustainable world will increasingly have to be legislated, more so if industry does not proactively self-regulate to raise its own standards.” 

“The quality of our future depends on the quality of our imagination today. I see the future of the Aditya Birla Group as one of growth, continued leadership in our industries and delivering excellence for many decades to come.”, he said.

“We have defined a Sustainable Business as one that can continue to operate within the tightening constraints of a future Sustainable World and accept that by definition a Sustainable World can only contain Sustainable Businesses.” – Kumar Mangalam Birla

“Our framework is complete and is based on 17 policies and associated technical and management standards that are setting expectations and guiding improvements across our Group companies.”, said Kumar Mangalam Birla.

“This is report is an initiative to share the significant efforts that we have made to make us ready for the future that we know is coming.”, says Tony Henshaw, Chief Sustainability Officer, Aditya Brila Group.

“A sustainable business is one that is fit for purpose in a rapidly changing world. This means understanding that there are factors that affect our survival that are beyond our control and that by planning for them, we can proper –today and in future.”, revealed in the report.

From humble beginning in Rajasthan, in the 1800s, Aditya Birla Group was born. Today, with Kumar Mangalam Birla at the helm, Group has recognized as a world-leading conglomerate and sector leaders in representing industries with close to 120,000 employees and over 250 production facilities and sites globally, with revenue of over US$44 billion.
