Organizations are working towards improving eye health in India, and this consultation was an important step towards achieving this objective.
BENGALURU (India CSR): CBM India Trust, in partnership with VISION2020 – The Right to Sight, hosted a network consultation at West Fort Hotel, Bangalore, to discuss the current state of eye care services in Karnataka.
The consultation mentioned in the statement brought together Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and private eye hospitals to deliberate upon the existing gaps and challenges in the current healthcare system. The primary objective was to develop a comprehensive strategy to address the identified challenges and promote future learning and collaboration. The ultimate goal of this strategy is to achieve universal eye health coverage in the state. By fostering collaboration and knowledge-sharing among the stakeholders, the consultation aims to develop an effective healthcare ecosystem that can provide equitable and quality eye care services to all individuals in the state, regardless of their socio-economic status.
The consultation aimed to strengthen the understanding of universal eye health coverage in Karnataka and examine eye health finances and policies in the state. The meeting discussed the concept of Universal Eye Health Coverage (UEHC), emphasizing the need for increased investment in eye health and ensuring access to quality eye care services for all. Inclusion in eye health programs and addressing disparities and outcomes were also highlighted. A joint action plan with Vision 2020 – Right to Sight was developed, outlining specific goals, objectives, and strategies for implementation, monitoring, and evaluation.
Dr. Sara Varughese, Managing Trustee of CBM India Trust, said, “We are excited to be a part of this consultation, which is an important step towards improving eye health in Karnataka. Our efforts align with the goals set forth by WHO’s South-East Asia regional action plan that envisions 80% people with diabetes regularly screened for retinopathy, 30% increase in effective coverage of cataract surgery, 40% increase in effective coverage of refractive errors by 2030.”
She further added, “We believe that every individual has the right to access quality eye care services, and we are committed to working towards achieving this goal. We hope that this meeting will help us identify the challenges and opportunities in the eye care sector in Karnataka and develop a roadmap for enhancing future collaboration.”
CBM India trust and VISION2020 – The Right to Sight are dedicated to working towards improving eye health in India, and this consultation was an important step towards achieving this objective.
