BALCO is encouraging its workforce to proactively adopt an eco-friendly lifestyle
Balconagar: Bharat Aluminium Company Limited (BALCO), India’s iconic aluminium producer and a subsidiary of Vedanta Aluminium, is actively promoting environment-friendly activities among its workforce and communities. In pursuit of this aim, it has undertaken several measures with a view to enabling people to contribute in their individual and collective capacities towards improving environmental health.
Recognizing the important role played by young generations in driving ecofriendly transformation at the grassroot level, BALCO is organizing regular awareness sessions for the schools in its vicinity. Recently, the company celebrated World Ozone Day in association with the Chhattisgarh Environment Conservation Board (CECB), Regional Office, Korba by conducting an informative program for the students of Bal Sadan Higher Secondary School, Balconagar. The event featured various activities like speech competitions, quizzes etc. on the theme ‘Global Cooperation to Protect Life on Earth’, designed to stimulate the students’ interest in environmental conservation.
Towards developing a culture of close adherence to environmentally aligned practices, BALCO is encouraging its workforce to proactively adopt an eco-friendly lifestyle. In sync with this, the company has introduced a volunteer-driven carpooling initiative, with the objective of sensitizing the staff of BALCO and their family members regarding the positive effects of small steps taken collectively towards environment health.
BALCO has also launched a novel initiative ‘Making Birthdays Greener’, under which employees are invited to plant a sapling on the eve of their birthday. The objective behind this initiative is to demonstrate ways to make important celebrations more environment friendly. The resulting orchard born out of the sapling planting initiative will also serve as an inspiration for future generations to do their own bit for the planet.
