MUMBAI: ‘India CSR Dr. Velaga Memorial for Innovative Library Services‘, a prestigious award for extraordinary work in the field of library services with ‘out of box’ thinking was presented to Dr. Rishi Tiwari, a librarian at Birla Institute of Management Technology (BIMTECH), Greater Noida, UP.
Dr. Rishi Tiwari honored at India CSR Leadership Summit in Mumbai on May 26, 2017. India CSR Leadership Summit is emerged as one of the most prestigious annual CSR forum in the country. The award carries a cash prize of Rs. 11,000, a Certificate and a memento. He received the honour from Akbar Khan, Veteran Actor, Writer, Director, Producer and Rusen Kumar, Founder of India CSR Network and other eminent personalities.
Dr. Tiwari is deeply involved in the various activities of rehabilitation of jail inmates and underprivileged poor girls near Delhi-NCR. Being founder Secretary of Ranganathan Society for Social Welfare and Library Development, he has established 9 rural libraries, 7 Prison libraries and 4 computer centers in different parts of Uttar Pradesh. The prison libraries are opened in District Jails of Ghaziabad, Lucknow, Meerut, Gautam Budh Nagar, Aligarh, Etawah and Bulandshahar in last couple of years.
Dr. Rishi K. Tiwari, a Master’s and Doctorate degree holder in Library and Information Science from Jiwaji University, Gwalior carrying 22 years of professional experience is presently associated with Birla Institute of Management Technology (BIMTECH), Greater Noida, UP.
Dr. Tiwari, a well-known name in the Library Science professional circle has organized various conferences and workshops. He has published 24 research papers and 4 books and also guiding and supervising scholars of Library and Information Science in their research work.

The India CSR Dr Velaga Memorial Award for Innovative Library Services is established by India CSR Network in leadership of its founder in the year 2017 in profound memory of Dr. Velaga Venkatappiah (1930-2014), a think tank of Indian library movement and architect of public library legislation, who passed away on 29th December, 2014. Dr. Velaga Venkatappaiah Memorial Award was the person in Andhra Pradesh to apply the concept of CSR to libraries and proved that public libraries can also derive support from corporate firms and PSUs under the CSR mandate.
