SAKTI, CHHATTISGARH (India CSR): Vedanta Limited Chhattisgarh Thermal Power Plant (VLCTPP) is playing a significant role in strengthening preventive healthcare in surrounding rural communities through its mobile health unit. Under its community development initiative, the ‘Arogya Project’, health camps are being organised across the Gram Panchayats of Singhitarai, Odekera, and Nimohi, helping raise awareness of essential health practices while providing direct medical support.
Through these camps, residents are not only educated about health and hygiene but also receive free medicines and consultations from qualified doctors. In the financial year 2026-27 so far, a new beacon of hope has been provided to nearly 1,500 villagers who benefited from a range of medical services under the project. The initiative is being implemented in collaboration with NGO partner PHD Rural Development Foundation, New Delhi.

The objective of operating the mobile health unit is to expand health awareness to as many people as possible. In this endeavour, Vedanta Power has been 100% successful.
The mobile health unit aims to expand healthcare access and awareness among underserved populations, and has seen strong success in doing so. Close to 7,000 residents have benefitted from Vedanta’s health outreach efforts, bringing renewed confidence and access to reliable care. One of the most notable impacts has been a reduction in reliance on unqualified practitioners, as villagers increasingly turn to trained medical professionals for treatment and advice, with doctors and paramedical staff raising awareness of the importance of preventive healthcare.

The initiative has also helped reduce the need for rural residents to travel to urban centres for primary care, saving both time and cost.
Alongside treatment, the camps emphasise nutrition, sanitation, and preventive healthcare practices. Each unit is staffed by an MBBS-qualified doctor and trained paramedical personnel, ensuring consistent, credible care delivery.
Health camps are conducted daily at pre-identified locations, where patients receive free consultations and other medical benefits. The unit facilitates screening for common conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, and anaemia, with essential medicines provided at no cost.

Speaking on the impact of the initiative, Rajinder Singh Ahuja, CEO – Power, Vedanta Ltd, said, “In line with the vision of building a healthier India, Vedanta Power remains committed to extending every possible support. Strengthening healthcare in rural areas requires governments, healthcare institutions, industry, and communities to work together. Through the Arogya Project, we aim to provide quality healthcare to those in need, enabling them to lead healthier and more resilient lives.”
Devendra Kumar Patel, Chief Operating Officer, VLCTPP, said that the mobile health unit has been significantly benefiting rural women, men, and children. He noted that the initiative plays an important role in promoting health awareness and added that Vedanta Power remains committed to providing all possible support to help rural communities achieve better health outcomes.
Ghurwa Ram Sidar, Sarpanch representative of Gram Panchayat Singhitarai, noted that Vedanta Power has made a commendable contribution towards improving access to healthcare in rural areas, with mobile medical camps currently ensuring consistent care for villagers.
Echoing similar views, Chandrika Chauhan, Sarpanch representative of Gram Panchayat Odekera, and Parasmani Gabhel, Sarpanch of Nimohi, along with several villagers, shared that the mobile health camps provide them with all essential medicines. With camps being organised within the villages, most residents no longer have to wait for transport and can walk in for treatment. The initiative has been particularly beneficial for children and pregnant women, who are now receiving better care. In addition, Vedanta Power’s doctors also offer free guidance on maintaining good health.
