With a focus on building infrastructure and empowering talent, REC continues to pave the way for Indian athletes to shine on international platforms, reinforcing its role as a catalyst for holistic national development.

NEW DELHI (India CSR): REC Limited, a Maharatna Central Public Sector Enterprise (CPSE) under the Ministry of Power, has taken a significant step to advance India’s sports infrastructure. Under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, REC signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with THDC India Limited (THDCIL) to develop an Olympic-size swimming pool at the THDCIL Water Sports High-Performance Academy of Canoeing & Kayaking in Koteshwar, Tehri (Uttarakhand).

“The project is backed by a financial commitment of Rs. 3.97 crore from REC.”, the company informed India CSR.

1. A Collaboration to Empower Sports Talent

The MoA was formalized during a ceremony attended by key dignitaries. Shri Pradeep Fellows, Executive Director, CSR, REC, and Shri Amardeep, General Manager, THDCIL and President of SEWA THDC, signed the agreement in the presence of:

  • Vivek Kumar Dewangan, Chairman and Managing Director, REC Limited
  • Harsh Baweja, Director (Finance), REC
  • Shallinder Singh, Director (Personnel), THDCIL

The upcoming swimming facility is designed to cater to high-performance training for national-level athletes, with a focus on preparing them for international competitions in canoeing and kayaking.

2. Fostering Excellence in Water Sports

This initiative underscores REC’s commitment to promoting sports development in India, aligning with its vision to empower athletes and elevate India’s presence on the global sports stage. The pool will serve as a state-of-the-art training ground, fostering the growth of talent in water sports and providing athletes with facilities to achieve excellence.

“REC’s CSR investment is more than just building infrastructure; it’s about creating opportunities for young athletes to excel globally,” the company said.

3. REC’s Legacy in CSR

REC Foundation, the CSR arm of REC Limited, has a legacy of impactful initiatives. With more than 400 projects completed across healthcare, sanitation, education, skill development, women empowerment, environmental sustainability, and sports, REC has consistently demonstrated its commitment to national development. The company has disbursed over Rs. 1,300 crore in CSR funds, with cumulative commitments exceeding Rs. 2,000 crore.

4. Transforming India’s Sports Landscape

This collaboration with THDCIL represents a pivotal move in strengthening sports infrastructure in India. By supporting initiatives like the Olympic-size swimming pool in Tehri, REC aims to not only nurture talent but also inspire the next generation of athletes to achieve global recognition.
