PUNJAB (India CSR): REC Limited, a Maharatna Central Public Sector Enterprise (CPSE) under the Ministry of Power and a leading Non-Banking Financial Company (NBFC), has taken a significant step toward improving healthcare accessibility in Punjab. Under its flagship Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, REC has committed Rs 4.29 crore to procure and deploy four Mobile Medical Units (MMUs) across four districts in the state. These life-saving units were officially handed over to the Indian Red Cross Society, Punjab, in a grand flag-off ceremony led by Hon’ble Governor Gulab Chand Kataria Ji at Punjab Raj Bhawan.

Healthcare on Wheels: Reaching the Unreachable

For many people in rural and underserved areas, accessing healthcare remains a challenge due to geographical barriers, lack of transportation, and financial constraints. Recognizing this gap, REC Limited has introduced Mobile Medical Units (MMUs)—fully equipped vehicles that bring essential medical services directly to those in need. These MMUs will serve as a lifeline for marginalized communities, providing basic healthcare services, diagnostic tests, medicines, and doctor consultations.

Recognition from the Governor of Punjab

At the flag-off event, Hon’ble Governor Shri Gulab Chand Kataria Ji praised REC’s commitment to social development, stating:

“Healthcare should not be a privilege but a right for all. With these mobile medical units, REC is ensuring that quality healthcare reaches the last mile, benefiting those who need it the most. This initiative will significantly enhance medical accessibility in rural Punjab.”

Distinguished Guests at the Flag-Off Ceremony

The launch event at Raj Bhawan, Chandigarh, saw participation from several key dignitaries and state officials, including:

  • Shri K. Siva Prasad, Additional Chief Secretary to the Hon’ble Governor
  • Shri V.P. Singh, Principal Secretary to the Hon’ble Governor
  • Shri S. Dhillon, CEO, Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), Punjab
  • Shri Pradeep Fellows, Executive Director (CSR), REC Limited
  • Shri M.A. Ali, Senior Chief Project Manager, REC Panchkula

Their presence highlighted the collaborative effort between REC and local authorities in bringing meaningful change to public healthcare.

Expanding REC’s CSR Footprint Nationwide

REC Limited’s contribution to nation-building goes beyond healthcare. Over the years, REC Foundation has actively supported more than 400 projects in key social sectors, including:

  • Healthcare & Sanitation – Mobile medical units, hospital infrastructure, maternal care programs
  • Education & Skill Development – Scholarships, digital classrooms, skill training for youth
  • Clean Water & Environmental Sustainability – Water purification systems, afforestation drives
  • Women Empowerment & Sports Development – Support for women-led entrepreneurship, rural sports programs

With over Rs 1,300 crore already disbursed in CSR initiatives, REC’s total commitment to corporate social responsibility exceeds Rs 2,000 crore, reinforcing its role as a responsible corporate citizen dedicated to social progress.

A Commitment to a Healthier Future

By deploying Mobile Medical Units in Punjab, REC Limited has reaffirmed its commitment to bridging healthcare gaps and ensuring that no one is left behind. This initiative is a beacon of hope for thousands who lack access to basic medical facilities, reinforcing the power of CSR in transforming lives.

As REC Foundation continues to expand its social impact across India, its focus remains clear—empowering communities, improving lives, and driving sustainable development.
