Launch of the Public- Private Partnership (PPP) in Early Childhood Development and Day Care Centres for the most disadvantaged communities in the North Municipal Corporation

NEW DELHI: PVR NEST, the social arm of PVR Ltd. with North Municipal corporation of Delhi and Mobile Creches announced the launch of the one-of-a-kind service – Aanchal.

The initiative is introduced under the company’s flagship program centered around children at risk – PVR Childscapes. Accelerating vision of sustainable development in child protection and care; the initiative introduces India’s first PPP [Public- Private Partnership] Model on Early Childhood Development (ECD) and Day Care Centres.

In its first phase, the project aims at opening 10 care and protection centres across schools in prominent locations in North Delhi.

The launch ceremony on Thursday at PVR Plaza, New Delhi witnessed the gracious presence of honorable Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Shri Anil Baijal as Chief Guest. The event also observed the presence of notable figures from public bodies like IAS Ms. Ira Singhal and corporate stalwarts with notable contribution in the space of development and sustainability Ms. Sangeetha Robinson, Head Sustainability and Inclusion, PVR Ltd. The afternoon advanced to a keynote session by IAS Ms. Ira Singhal on the vision behind project ‘Aanchal’ followed by the unveil of the new Childscapes Safety Icon of PVR NEST.

Elaborating on the need of Public Private Partnership in addressing India’s social challenges honorable Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Anil Baijal said “Delhi as a city holds a significant percentage of its population who are migrants. Managing work responsibilities for survival whilst ensuring healthy and safe surroundings for their children at their growing age is a concern for many. This initiative is brilliant which not only ensures children are exposed to education and are protected against the atrocities of our society, but it also helps them learn to interact and will develop their cognitive skills. I am happy to see the participation of corporates and individuals on their own capacities to bring a change in our society and support government in its efforts on development and sustainability.

I appreciate all the institutes and corporates who have come up with this exemplary initiative which looks at community development.”

Envisioned by the revolutionary IAS Ira Singhal, Deputy Commissioner, North Delhi Municipal Corporation, the project Aanchal aims to address the challenges and gaps in traditional education, health and safety of the marginalized families and women workers.

She says, “Child protection and development is integral to a nation’s growth. The aim was to establish a sustainable model that will ensure quality services to the children from the underprivileged sections of society. This initiative caters to the challenges which are witnessed by the women from the under catered stratum of society who also shoulder the responsibility of supporting the family financially and look after their children. Project Aanchal assures every parent of a safe hygienic and productive environment for their children while they are away at work.”

She further added” The Public private partnership in addressing India’s social issues is the need of the hour. I congratulate those who have acknowledged their responsibility in making our country a better place to live and I hope such engagements will be more aggressive in future.”

PVR NEST; joining the wagon with support of North Delhi Municipal Corporation focusses on creating a sustainable infrastructure and a standard operating procedure for primary schools in North MCD to adopt and take forward eventually. This initiative seeks to care for children from 6 months – 12 years old.

It will not only ensure proper child-care facilities, but also empower mothers from economically weaker sections to make optimum use of livelihood, and in some cases even educational opportunities available to them, without having to worry about safety and quality education for their children.

Deepa Menon, Sr. Vice President – CSR, PVR Ltd. said, “We at PVR NEST have always endeavored to conceptualize unique models to promote education, social development, and environmental sustainability. Children are the future of the nation and we have several initiatives that are designed for their protection and progress. With Aanchal, we have focused on three parameters – empowering working mothers from the under catered sections of society, enhancing educational infrastructure in Delhi’s government schools and a sustainable model through public-private partnership model and opening it to people for funding. I believe as individuals, corporates, institutes or bodies we have a responsibility towards the betterment of society and each effort culminates into bringing a change.”

Childscapes Protection and Care centers would promote physical, cognitive, language, emotional and social development of children by imparting age appropriate learning and stimulation. It would also seek to improve the nutritional and health status of children and ensure their care and protection through provisioning of need based support and referral services.
