The continuously increasing dropout rates due to the unavailability of higher education and financial crisis faced by numerous poor families have forced children to work as child laborers

More than 800 unprivileged children living in and around Nallurahalli, Bangaluru will now be able to get higher education thanks to Huawei India – a leading global provider of information and communications technology (ICT) infrastructure and smart devices.

The Aahwahan foundation in cooperation with Huawei India has taken the initiative to construct a Government High School to provide education to children from financially unstable families.

Commenting on this initiative, Gilbert Millicent Nathan, AVP; Huawei CSR India said that “From the past few years, we have been actively contributing towards the development of local communities. Keeping in mind the need for good infrastructure in government schools and with a strong belief that the learning environment and infrastructure are both vital components of a school’s learning, Huawei sponsored infrastructure at Nallurahalli Government School in Whitefield, Bangalore by funding the construction of 4 classrooms, boundary walls, sanitation facilities, painting, and designing work.

The continuously increasing dropout rates due to the unavailability of higher education and financial crisis faced by numerous poor families have forced children to work as child laborers, thus undermining their future. Therefore, to make education accessible to children from all walks of life and enabling them to become skilled professionals.

Today, Aravind Limbavali (Former Cabinet Minister), MLA; Mahadevapura in presence of Gilbert, AVP, Huawei CSR India, Braja Kishore Pradhan, Founder; Aahwahan Foundation, and officials from Education Department, & Community leaders inaugurated the Government High School (Karnataka Public School) in Nallurahalli.

Braja Kishore Pradhan, Founder; Aahwahan Foundation said, “Earlier the area only had two primary schools. Fortunately, Huawei CSR India came along and blessed the children with a wonderful gift. This has solved a major issue as students now don’t have to work as child laborers and can continue their higher studies. The building will have floors that will consist of 4 classrooms, Boundary walls a science lab, and separate sanitation facilities for boys and girls.

Further adding to this, he said that “The school is being constructed on 5 acres of land that was allotted by the state government. He extended his thanks to Aravind Limbavali (Former Cabinet Minister), MLA; Mahadevapura for supporting their initiative to empower government schools to enhance the quality of learning, ultimately improving the lives of many disadvantaged children.”

The institution will start working soon after the construction of the school building is completed by 2022. India has the largest number of child laborers. Instead of going to school, they do hard labor because of poverty. This initiative will improve the lives of many vulnerable children by aiding them in pursuing their higher education and lowering dropout rates.
