VADODARA: Baroda Management Association (BMA) on Tuesday organised a round table conference on ‘Corporate social responsibility (CSR)’ and its challenges and opportunities.
The conference was inaugurated by Mitesh Shah, managing director of Steelco Gujarat Limited.
He talked about need and responsibilities of companies to take care of society. He emphasized the need for the companies for their own survival and growth over a period of time.
He also shared companies’ experience and taking help of nearby village women as a part of CSR functions.
Speakers included professor Satish Deodhar, IIM -Ahmedabad, Dr HB Patel, executive director (finance and accounts) of Gujarat Alkalies and Chemicals Limited, Prasad Pradhan, head of sustainability and communication of Hindustan Unilever Limited, Amit Mehta, CEO of Maa Foundation, Vapi and Urja Shah, CEO of Setco Foundation among others.
Concept of CSR, legal provisions of the Companies Act, 2013 with rules, case study of young children education, health, skill development, human rights, environment, relevance of culture and religion in business, health and safety, role of governments, among others were thoroughly discussed, debated and analyzed for sustainable development.
Public Private Partnership has to increase for speedy implementation of various government schemes.
There was a consensus among all the faculties, speakers that top management with right vision, values, systems, processes are very much important for taking care of society, then only CSR can be implemented in a right spirit.
