Mumbai (IndiaCSR): Essar Foundation has always been on the forefront when it comes to uplifting the society and communities. In support of the ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ launched by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, Essar Foundation and Essar Ports donated water filters to D-WARD of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). The water filters will help provide access to clean and safe drinking water to about 2,000 BMC sanitation workers (Safai Karmacharis).
The Safai Karmacharis are key to the ecosystem that ensures sanitation work, collecting garbage, cleaning roads, gutters and sewage etc. Though their work ensures a clean environment for all citizens, it is usually at the cost of them being exposed to very challenging environments and the risk of several health hazards for themselves and their family.

Commenting on the initiative, Mr Shrikant Rathod said “Last month, the Safai Karmacharis had approached the BMC requesting for water filters to be installed at the chowkies. It is a blessing that Essar has come forward and supported our workers. It is a great gesture by the company.”
