CSR: DCM Shriram on menstrual hygiene

DCM Shriram Ltd has joined hands with Tata Trusts to raise awareness on menstrual hygiene among adolescent girls and women in and around its four sugar units in Hardoi & Lakhimpur Kheri, Uttar Pradesh.
DCM Shriram has been working on health and hygiene for the last several years under its CSR programme. ‘Khushali Sehat’ its health programme is being run in 44 villages of Hardoi and Lakhimpur districts through partner organizations Vinoba Seva Ashram, Gram Swarajya Mission Ashram and Mamta HIMC on the ground.
Taking this programme forward, Village Level Workers (VLWs) were given Knowledge training by Tata Trusts to generate awareness among adolescent girls and women on sanitation and safety during the menstruation period, and the benefits of reusable cotton sanitary pads. The VLWs will be further doing three sessions each for all the female population of these 44 villages to create awareness on menstrual hygiene and the same will be repeated at regular intervals.
Roshan Lal Tamak, Executive Director and CEO, Sugar Business, DCM Shriram Limited said, “DCM Shriram takes various developmental initiatives in the area through its social responsibility programmes. This CSR initiative related to sanitation and safety in the menstrual period, in collaboration with Tata Trusts, is a significant effort.”
The Tata Trusts team also trained women on making reusable cotton sanitary pads at the Silai School, a CSR vocational skill training programme run at Ajbapur and Loni by DCM Shriram where young women learn sewing. They will make reusable cotton sanitary pads which will be sold by the team of VLW’s.
This MHM program will benefit about 11000 women from 44 villages.
