Learning Infrastructure, Sanitation facilities being improved in the schools

NEWAI: Moving forward on its commitment to improve the lives of local communities in Rajasthan, India’s largest Science-based Ayurveda specialist Dabur India Ltd today announced the expansion of its community development drive in the state with the adoption of four Government schools in Rajasthan – two in Newai and two in Alwar.

Dabur has pledged to improve the overall infrastructure in these four schools this year in Rajasthan with the intent of improving the overall learning environment for children in rural Rajasthan.

As part of the revamp, Dabur has created new and separate sanitation facilities for both boys and girls, in addition to creating a drinking water facility, and upgrading the school infrastructure with BaLA (Building as Learning Aid) paintings. The revamped Government Senior Secondary School, Banasthali, Newai, District Tonk, was handed over to the school and district administration at a function held at Newai.

The development work was carried out through Dabur’s CSR arm Jivanti Welfare & Charitable Trust and an independent development agency SURE (Society to Uplift Rural Economy).

Addressing the gathering, Dabur India Ltd Head-CSR A Sudhakar said, “Dabur is committed to making a positive contribution to to a more sustainable future for India. As part of this mission, we have been working towards improving the learning environment for children in backward areas across the country. We understand that schools are foundations for imparting education to the younger generation. At Dabur, we believe that education is both the means to a better life and a key to ensure overall development of the society. In a bid to improve enrollment levels and reduce the dropout rates in rural and semi-urban schools, Dabur has taken up the onus of improving the infrastructure in schools and improving the learning experience for children in rural India. This revamp exercise in Rajasthan is a part of this mission.”

The revamp initiative in these schools would benefit a total of over 1,900 students. The school revamp was undertaken after detailed discussions with the school authorities and keeping their specific needs in mind.

“After a detailed survey of the region, these four schools were identified as the initial beneficiaries for our Education-led CSR interventions in Rajasthan. After discussions with the school administration and local authorities, we commenced a host of development activities in the school. Our intention is to develop and support these schools as Model Schools for the region,” A Sudhakar said.

The school building and classrooms have been completely revamped and messages related to Health, Hygiene and Education have been painted on the walls under the Building as Learning Aid (BaLA) programme.

“Access to basic education is the most fundamental right of any child. But an equally important right is access to basic and hygienic sanitation facilities and a healthy learning environment in schools. Going forward, Dabur India Ltd plans to roll out a host of development initiatives aimed at improving the livelihood of rural populace, particularly women and children, in the region,” Sudhakar said.

“What is that life worth which cannot bring comfort to others.” These inspiring words from Dabur India Ltd Founder Dr. S. K. Burman have been the guiding light behind Dabur’s social development initiatives. Dabur has been involved with community development work since 1994, endeavoring to bring about an enduring change in the lives of people and to create the right environment for driving the local economy. Through our School Support Programme, Dabur has, over the past five years, helped revamp nearly 100 government schools and make them better place for study. In Rajasthan, Dabur is also helping the community tide over the water crisis in this region through cost-effective, eco-friendly community-based technologies.
