PUNE (India CSR): In a drive to bolster the educational landscape of Maharashtra’s rural sectors, Bharat Forge Limited has been diligently working on enhancing the infrastructure of Zilla Parishad (ZP) schools. A quality educational environment often translates into improved student retention, and recognizing this pivotal correlation, the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) has initiated significant infrastructural transformations in the hinterlands of Maharashtra. The company’s commitment to rural education and development has been unwavering since 2014, positively impacting multiple districts in Maharashtra.

School Construction Initiatives

A plethora of interventions have been rolled out to ameliorate the infrastructural fabric of these schools. One of the standout achievements has been the construction of new school buildings in nine villages spanning across Pune, Satara, and Kolhapur districts. Villages like Dhamner, Shirdhon, Wadgaon kashimbeg, Thakarwadi, Sonori, Dive, Girim, Peth Wadgaon, and Jaysingpur now boast modern educational facilities, which promise an improved learning experience for their students.

Sanitation: The Key to Health & Hygiene

Taking a comprehensive approach, Bharat Forge has also addressed the pressing issue of sanitation. By erecting urinals and WCs in 39 schools scattered across Pune, Satara, Solapur, and Kolhapur districts, the company has ensured basic sanitation amenities are within the reach of every student.

Transformational Stories

Sonori Village presents a classic transformation. Previously, with a dilapidated school building, classes were conducted within temple premises. The intervention brought a new school facility, benefiting over 150 students in a village with a population of 2,200.

In Kole Village, inadequate toilet facilities had previously compelled students to use open spaces. A problematic scenario, especially for female students, was leading to increased absenteeism. Bharat Forge stepped in, constructing new toilet facilities, directly benefiting over 308 students.

Strategic Partnerships for Grassroots Development

Bharat Forge’s CSR initiatives are not unilateral. The company has established partnerships with notable entities in several talukas. Collaborations with MAM (Maharashtra Arogya Mandal), Deepstambh, Nisarg Vedh, and Shivar have amplified their impact.

Empowering Educators

While infrastructure forms the backbone of a functional educational institution, the soul lies in its educators. Recognizing this, Bharat Forge is also investing in teacher training programs. These programs focus on modern pedagogies, digital literacy, and holistic child development, ensuring that the improved infrastructure is complemented by quality teaching.

Community Involvement

For any initiative to bear long-lasting fruits, it is essential to have the community onboard. With that in mind, Bharat Forge is organizing regular community interaction sessions. These sessions act as a platform for parents and village elders to voice their opinions, share feedback, and collectively envision the future of their schools.

Environmental Responsibility

Schools are not just about bricks and walls; they are about creating a conducive learning environment. To this end, Bharat Forge is initiating the planting of trees and the creation of green spaces within school premises. This not only beautifies the space but also imparts crucial lessons on environmental stewardship to the students.

Monitoring & Evaluation

Understanding the importance of continuous improvement, periodic monitoring, and evaluation mechanisms are being put in place. These mechanisms will gauge the effectiveness of the interventions, gather insights, and ensure that the initiatives always remain aligned with the changing needs of the communities they serve.
