BENGALURU (India CSR): Ropa village in Himachal Pradesh is witnessing a positive transformation, thanks to a joint initiative by ACC, part of the Adani Group, and the Adani Foundation, with support from NABARD. This collaboration has built a 639-metre concrete irrigation channel, locally known as a ‘kuhl,’ significantly enhancing water distribution and agricultural productivity in the region.
Modern Irrigation for Sustainable Growth
The newly constructed concrete channel has replaced the traditional kacha (earthen) channels that were prone to water seepage and wastage. This upgrade has ensured a reliable, timely water supply for 14 farmers, benefiting 2.3 hectares of farmland. By improving water flow, the project has not only addressed water scarcity issues but also laid the foundation for sustainable farming practices in the village.
Key Benefits of the Project
One of the most impactful outcomes has been the reduction of water wastage. The new pucca channels effectively conserve water while improving distribution across the fields. This change has led to a boost in crop yields, with farmers reporting a 10% increase in the production of staple crops like wheat and maize.
Farmers’ Voices: A Brighter Future
For farmers like Ravi Thakur, the improved irrigation system has been a game-changer. He shared, “With the even distribution of water across our fields, we can now plan our crops better and achieve more consistent yields. ACC and the Adani Foundation have made farming more viable for us.”
Such testimonials underscore the real-world impact of this initiative on rural livelihoods, demonstrating the power of well-planned infrastructure projects in elevating farming communities.

Collaboration for Long-Term Impact
The success of the Ropa village project is a testament to the collaboration between ACC, the Adani Foundation, and NABARD. The inclusion of features such as check dams and water-drop structures further enhances the conservation of water and optimizes its usage, ensuring that the benefits extend across multiple cropping seasons.
Commitment to Rural Empowerment
ACC and the Adani Foundation’s focus on empowering rural communities extends beyond Himachal Pradesh. Similar initiatives across the country are helping farmers adopt sustainable practices, reduce water dependency, and achieve higher productivity. Their approach aligns with the larger goal of promoting rural development and environmental sustainability.
The Road Ahead
By addressing long-standing issues related to water management and irrigation, the partnership between ACC, the Adani Foundation, and NABARD is setting an example for holistic rural development. The initiative in Ropa village serves as a reminder that impactful CSR efforts can create long-lasting, positive change when aligned with the needs of the local community.
With continued focus and collaboration, such projects can bridge critical resource gaps, enhance agricultural resilience, and empower farming communities to thrive sustainably.
