PUNE (India CSR): In a significant step toward combating water scarcity, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde inaugurated RSB Group’s Project Amrut, a pioneering water conservation initiative in Kanhur Mesai village, Shirur Taluka, Pune. Spearheaded by the RSB Foundation in collaboration with Mukhyamantri Janakalyan Kashsh and the Seva Sahyog Foundation, the project aims to provide sustainable water access to drought-prone villages, enhancing livelihoods and ensuring water security.

A Lifeline for Drought-Affected Villages

The bore well revival project is set to benefit the villages of Kanhur Mesai, Khairewadi, and Kendur, where acute water shortages have impacted both daily living and agriculture. The project integrates rainwater harvesting and bore well recharging technologies to replenish groundwater levels and ensure a steady, reliable water supply.

Let’s dive in and see how this initiative makes a tangible difference:

  • Water Conservation Impact: The project is designed to conserve 1.5 crore litres of water annually.
  • Recharge of Wells: Over 100 wells in nearby areas will be recharged, providing sustainable water resources.
  • Agricultural Benefits: Increased water availability will enable second crop cultivation, improving farmers’ incomes.
  • Tanker-Free Villages: The initiative aims to eliminate the need for water tankers in the region, alleviating the burden on local communities.

Representing RSB Group were Mr. Rajnikant Behera, Executive Director of RSB Group; Ms. Priyanka Behera, Head of CSR; and Mr. Chetan Kusalkar, Senior Executive Officer of CSR. The presence of local leaders, Shiv Sena representatives, and enthusiastic school students highlighted the community’s collective dedication to solving the water crisis.

Speaking at the event, Priyanka Behera, Head of CSR at RSB Group, shared:

“At RSB Group, we believe in creating meaningful change through our social initiatives. Project Amrut is a testament to our commitment to addressing water scarcity and fostering sustainable development in rural Maharashtra.”

Strengthening Rural Resilience

Project Amrut’s innovative approach ensures that the region’s water resources are managed sustainably, reducing reliance on unpredictable water sources. By providing long-term water solutions, the initiative also addresses key challenges related to drinking water shortages, agricultural productivity, and community well-being.

The event also served as a platform for discussions on the importance of corporate partnerships in rural development. Mr. Rajnikant Behera emphasized the broader vision of RSB Foundation:

“Our goal extends beyond infrastructure—it’s about empowering communities to build resilience. Project Amrut represents a commitment to lasting impact through collaboration and innovation.”

The Road Ahead

As the project progresses, its success could serve as a blueprint for similar initiatives across drought-prone regions in India. By fostering sustainable water management, RSB Group is not only addressing an urgent need but also setting the stage for self-reliant, water-secure communities.

You might be wondering, “How can I contribute to such impactful initiatives?” Sharing success stories like Project Amrut can inspire more organizations and communities to take meaningful action.
