RAIPUR: Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, the Chhattisgarh Govt. is taking steps to improve sports facilities in the region. The first-ever Chhattisgarhia Olympics were recently organized in the state, providing a platform for players of all ages to showcase their sports talent in traditional sports.
Now, the state government is looking to bring further changes to the sports scene in Chhattisgarh through the establishment of sports academies. Public and private sector industries have shown interest in running these academies under corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives, Govt. official informed.
A meeting was held with industry groups to discuss the operation of these academies, with Bhilai Steel Plant, Jindal Steel & Power Limited, NMDC Limited, Shree Bajrang Power & Ispat Limited, UltraTech Cement Limited, Bharat Aluminum Co. Ltd. Korba, S.E.C.L. Bilaspur, representatives of Gopal Sponge & Power Ltd. Raipur and Phil Ispat Pvt. Ltd. in attendance, a statement said.
Industry groups responded positively to the proposals put forward by the Sports Department, with Jindal Steel and Power Limited agreeing to handle the operation of the Residential Shooting Academy in Nava Raipur. Bhilai Steel Plant will edit the signed memorandum of understanding (MoU) in January 2023 for the establishment of the Malkhamb Academy in Narayanpur, and Ultratech Cement Ltd. has provided consent to sign an MoU for handling the operation of the Residential Hockey Academy in Raipur, set to begin in March 2023.
Shree Bajrang Power & Ispat Ltd. has given a positive response for handling the entire operation of the Residential Athletic Academy in Raipur.
These sports academies, with financial support and management operations by the industries, will provide modern sports training, educational facilities, accommodation, and food to state players.
The government’s efforts to improve sports facilities in Chhattisgarh will provide greater opportunities for athletes in the region to excel in their chosen sports, and enhance the state’s reputation in the world of sports.
