Exceeding Expectations: A Strong Financial Commitment to Social Impact

For the financial year ended March 31, 2025, Blue Star Limited’s total CSR obligation stood at Rs 7.04 crores, calculated as two percent of its average net profits from the three immediately preceding financial years. Demonstrating a proactive stance, the company’s actual expenditure significantly exceeded this requirement by Rs 0.35 crores. This excess amount is now poised to be set off against the company’s CSR obligation for the financial year 2025-26, showcasing prudent financial planning alongside social dedication.

Furthermore, the broader Blue Star Group of Companies collectively spent Rs 8.4767 crores on CSR activities. A portion of Blue Star Limited’s expenditure, specifically Rs 1.75 crores, was contributed to the Blue Star Foundation (BSF), a charitable trust established by the company to support underserved communities. Notably, Rs 0.13 crores of unspent CSR funds were meticulously transferred to a dedicated Unspent Corporate Social Responsibility Account for an ongoing project focused on empowering youth through skill-based training, in collaboration with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Foundation. This meticulous financial management ensures that every rupee allocated for social upliftment is accounted for and effectively utilized.

Empowering Lives Through Skill Development

A cornerstone of Blue Star’s CSR strategy is skill development, aimed at building sustainable livelihoods and empowering vulnerable communities across India. In partnership with various implementing agencies, the company has initiated and supported a diverse range of vocational training programs. These include:

  • Vocational training for women in rural areas, focusing on traditional crafts like handicrafts, tailoring, and artefact-making, providing them with income-generating skills.
  • Capacity-building and ongoing support for Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs), which has benefited around 750 farmers by improving their market access and technological capabilities.
  • Digital marketing training for 100 young women in Himachal Pradesh, opening new avenues for sustainable income in emerging sectors.

Beyond these, Blue Star’s initiatives have significantly impacted youth employability. Over 300 youth were supported under the National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS), gaining valuable hands-on training, academic credits, and essential soft skills. In total, more than 1000 youth benefited from various vocational training trades, including AC&R courses, bar bending, carpentry, cooking, baking, and equipment operation. The establishment of five Anganwadi Centres in Sri City also received capacity-building support, reinforcing the company’s commitment to holistic community development. The presence of Blue Star’s AC&R Skill Centre in Kandivali, Mumbai, further exemplifies this dedicated focus.

Nurturing Future Generations Through Education

Blue Star’s commitment to education is prominently showcased through the Mohan T Advani Centennial Scholarship programme, a flagship initiative of the Blue Star Foundation. This program plays a vital role in nurturing talent by providing financial support to students pursuing engineering, architecture, and diploma courses nationwide. In FY25 alone, nearly 350 students benefited from these scholarships at select partner institutions.

The Foundation’s support extends beyond monetary aid, actively enhancing student development through engaging activities such as interactive site visits, expert guest lectures, and personalized mentorship. These efforts foster both academic growth and professional readiness, preparing students for successful careers. The program also included soft skills training, factory tours, and technical workshops on topics like energy-efficient AC systems and modern trends in air conditioning. Overall, Blue Star’s initiatives successfully engaged 3250 students in STEM education programs, highlighting its dedication to building a knowledge-based future.

Promoting Health, Hygiene, and Community Well-being

In line with its integrated approach to sustainable value creation, Blue Star has significantly invested in health, hygiene, and wellness initiatives. The company has supported a range of medical diagnostic programs that have collectively benefited over 3000 individuals from underprivileged communities. These programs included providing free cancer diagnostic services in collaboration with reputable hospitals such as The Cancer Institute (WIA) in Chennai, Dr. M. L. Dhawale Trust’s Rural Homeopathic Hospital in Palghar, and Manav Seva Public Charitable Foundation in Akola.

Beyond specialized medical services, health camps were organized in Jaipur and Ahmedabad, offering general medical check-ups alongside crucial cervical cancer screenings for women. A notable initiative in Himachal Pradesh involved launching a project to promote women’s self-employment and enhance local tourism, which saw 100 young women receive digital marketing training. Additionally, Blue Star supported an eye screening program in Palghar, Maharashtra, benefiting over 12,000 students and teachers from government schools who also received corrective eyewear. These programs collectively underscore Blue Star’s holistic commitment to improving the overall quality of life in its operating communities.

A Commitment Beyond Compliance: Governance and Vision

Blue Star’s robust CSR framework is overseen by its Corporate Social Responsibility and Environmental, Social & Governance (CSR & ESG) Committee, comprising key directors: B Thiagarajan (Chairman), Anita Ramachandran (Independent Director), and Sunaina Murthy (Non-Executive Director). This committee plays a crucial role in recommending and monitoring CSR projects, ensuring transparency and alignment with the company’s core values.

The company’s CSR policy and projects are meticulously designed in accordance with Schedule VII read with Section 135 of the Companies Act, 2013, demonstrating full compliance with statutory provisions. Blue Star’s philosophy emphasizes contributing to a sustainable and equitable society by leveraging its resources and engaging in responsible business practices. Its continued focus on long-term value creation, driven by its strategic investments in areas like manufacturing expansion (Rs 1200 crores in FY22-FY25) and R&D (Rs 237 crores in FY22-FY25), further solidifies its commitment to sustainable growth. The company’s impressive financial performance, with consolidated revenue growing by 23.6% to Rs 11967.65 crores in FY25 and profit before tax increasing by 38.6% to Rs 772.42 crores, provides a strong foundation for its expanded social initiatives.

In conclusion, Blue Star Limited’s CSR report for FY25 paints a compelling picture of a company deeply invested in the social fabric of India. By strategically allocating resources, fostering skill development, promoting education, and championing health and wellness, Blue Star is not just achieving financial milestones but also building a legacy of positive and sustainable social change, truly demonstrating its “Gold Standard Service” not only to customers but also to society.
