NEW DELHI (India CSR): BloomBuds ASD Life Trust, a leading organization dedicated to advocating for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), joined forces with the Delhi Police Specialized Training Centre to host a groundbreaking workshop aimed at enhancing awareness and understanding of ASD within law enforcement.
Workshop Focus on Interacting with Individuals with ASD
The workshop, brought together police personnel from all districts of Delhi for a comprehensive discussion on interacting with individuals with ASD, with a particular focus on cases involving runaways and abandonment. The event served as a platform for police officers to share their experiences and challenges faced while dealing with ASD-related incidents, fostering an environment of learning and collaboration.
Enthusiastic Participation and Learning
A notable highlight of the workshop was the enthusiastic participation of over 70 police personnel, reflecting a strong commitment to engaging with and supporting individuals with ASD within the community. Through visual presentations, interactive sessions, and discussions on real-life scenarios, participants gained insights into the challenges faced by individuals with ASD and ADHD, during arrest, questioning, and legal proceedings. Recommendations were provided for sensitive communication with individuals with ASD in various circumstances, such as victims, witnesses, or suspects. The candid and constructive dialogue facilitated by the Additional Commissioner of Police (ACP) underscored the urgent need for initiatives like those championed by The BloomBuds ASD Life Trust and highlighted the importance of collaboration with governmental bodies such as the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to address the unique needs of individuals with ASD effectively.
