Bihar Train Accident: 6 Lives Lost, Nearly 100 Injured, Multiple Trains Affected

Buxar Train Accident: In a devastating incident, the Delhi-Kamakhya North East Express derailed in Bihar, leading to the loss of six lives and leaving almost a hundred passengers injured. The catastrophic derailment occurred near Raghunathpur station in Bihar’s Buxar district, causing extensive damage and chaos.

Casualties and Injuries

Tragedy struck when more than 12 coaches of the 12506 Delhi-Kamakhya North East Express derailed near Raghunathpur station in Bihar, resulting in six tragic casualties and close to 100 passengers sustaining injuries. Hospitals in Ara, Buxar, and Patna, including PMCH, AIIMS, and IGIMS, have been put on high alert to provide immediate medical assistance to the injured.

Moment of Impact

The incident unfolded near Raghunathpur station of Danapur division around 9:35 pm, with no reports of further casualties, as indicated by an official from Indian Railways, according to PTI.

Train Details

The ill-fated train, numbered 12506 Down North East Express, commenced its journey from Anand Vihar Terminal in Delhi at 7:45 am, en route to Kamakhya Junction in Assam’s Guwahati.

Disrupted Train Services

The East Central Railway zone issued a list of affected trains, including cancellations and diversions. Trains that have been canceled include Patna-Puri Special (03230), Sasaram-Ara Special (03620), Bhabua Road Express Special (03617), Patna-DDU Memu Pass Spl (03203), and Patna-Buxar Memu Pass Special (03375). Additionally, two trains have been partially canceled: Patna-DDU Express (13209), which will run up to Ara, and DDU-Patna Express (13210), which will also terminate at Ara.

Several other trains have been diverted to alternative routes, such as Pune-Danapur SF Express (12149), Patliputra SF Express (12141), Dibrugarh Rajdhani Express (12424), Vikramshila Express (12368), Kamakhya Express (15623), Guwahati Express (15633), Rajendra Nagar Terminal Tejas Rajdhani Express (12310), Bhagalpur Garib Rath Express (22406), and Anvt Rdp Express (22488), among others.

Rescue and Restoration

Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has declared a full-fledged rescue operation at the derailment site in Buxar. Multiple agencies, including NDRF, SDRF, district administration, railway officials, and local residents, are working together to ensure the safety of affected passengers. Injured individuals have been swiftly transported to hospitals, and a dedicated “war room” is coordinating the rescue efforts.

Government Response

Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav has been in direct communication with the district magistrate and SP of Buxar and Arrah, instructing them to make all necessary arrangements for the injured and deploy concerned officers to the accident site immediately.

Additionally, the railways have established further emergency helpline numbers for passengers: 9771449971 (Patna), 8905697493 (Danapur), 8306182542 (Ara), 8306182542, and 7759070004, aiming to support those affected by this unfortunate incident.
