Significant contribution from Kishori Jhunjhunwala, wife of alumni Dinanath Jhunjhunwala, will provide financial aid to deserving students across various disciplines.
Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has announced that it will be launching twelve new scholarships for its prospective students. This follows a generous donation of Rs 50 lakh from Kishori Jhunjhunwala, the wife of distinguished alumnus Dinanath Jhunjhunwala, under the institute’s Pratidana initiative.
Support to Meritorious and Needy Students
On Saturday, Kishori Jhunjhunwala formally handed over a cheque for Rs 50 lakh to BHU Vice Chancellor Sudhir Kumar Jain. The donation will primarily fund ten scholarships, with eight directed towards students of Mahila Mahavidyalaya. This allocation has been designed keeping merit and financial need in mind. A sizeable portion of this fund will be employed to support women’s education and empower them academically.
Aiding Sanskrit and Dharma Vijnana Students
Simultaneously, two scholarships have been earmarked for students of the Sanskrit Vidya Dharma Vijnana Sankaya who are pursuing an Acharya degree. This endeavor ensures that students focusing on traditional Indian wisdom and practices can continue to do so without financial burden.
Alumni Engagement and University Legacy
The donation holds additional significance as Dinanath Jhunjhunwala, a notable benefactor, graduated from BHU in 1954 with a degree in industrial engineering. This contribution symbolizes the sustained connection and involvement of alumni in the growth and development of the university.
Promoting Medical Education
In addition to these, BHU is also launching scholarships for students pursuing a Bachelor of Medicine, or a Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS). These scholarships specifically target students from economically weaker sections of society, offering them a grant worth Rs 25,000. The overarching aim of these scholarships is to ensure aspiring doctors can fulfill their dreams without being hindered by financial constraints.
Through these scholarships, BHU is reinforcing its commitment to fostering an inclusive educational environment where financial circumstances do not limit opportunities for talented students.
