New Delhi: Bhiku Ramji Idate (Dada Idate), former chairman of the National Commission for Denotified, Nomadic & Semi-Nomadic Tribes, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Govt. of India, has been selected for the Padma Shri in the category of Social Work from Maharashtra.
In addition to his previous role, Dada Idate currently serves as the chairman of the Development and Welfare Board for De-notified, Nomadic and Semi-Nomadic Communities (DWBDNCs) and is a member of the Identification & Classification Committee of NITI Aayog.
Idate Commission
In 2019, a committee was established under the chairmanship of the Vice Chairman of NITI Aayog to complete the process of identifying and formally classifying De-notified, Nomadic and Semi-Nomadic Communities under the guidance of the Idate Commission.
Development and Welfare Board for De-notified, Nomadic and Semi-Nomadic Communities
The DWBDNC was constituted on February 21, 2019, under the chairmanship of Bhiku Ramji Idate. Also, a committee has been set up by the NITI Aayog to complete the process of identification of the de-notified, nomadic, and semi-nomadic communities (DNCs). Ethnographic studies of DNCs are being conducted by the Anthropological Survey of India, with a budget of Rs 2.26 crore sanctioned. On March 30, 2022, the DoPT issued an advertisement for the recruitment of consultants in the DWBDNC.
91 Padma Shri Awards
These Awards are conferred by the President of India at ceremonial functions which are held at Rashtrapati Bhawan usually around March/ April every year. For the year 2023, the President has approved conferment of 106 Padma Awards including 3 duo cases (in a duo case, the Award is counted as one) as per list below. The list comprises 6 Padma Vibhushan, 9 Padma Bhushan and 91 Padma Shri Awards. 19 of the awardees are women and the list also includes 2 persons from the category of Foreigners/NRI/PIO/OCI and 7 Posthumous awardees.
Padma Awards
Padma Awards – one of the highest civilian Awards of the country, are conferred in three categories, namely, Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri. The Awards are given in various disciplines/ fields of activities, viz.- art, social work, public affairs, science and engineering, trade and industry, medicine, literature and education, sports, civil service, etc. ‘Padma Vibhushan’ is awarded for exceptional and distinguished service; ‘Padma Bhushan’ for distinguished service of high order and ‘Padma Shri’ for distinguished service in any field. The awards are announced on the occasion of Republic Day every year.
