KORBA (Chhattisgarh): Rural People who cannot avail adequate medical care on their own benefit a lot from free Medical Camps. The huge cost of health care makes it unaffordable and impossible for people from low income back grounds to visit Urban Hospitals for ailments. An example of such a situation was seen at the Free Health Check-up Camp organized by Balco on the occasion of World Health Day.
At the Camp in Village Gahania, a Scheduled Tribal Korwa Couple, namely Binu Ram Korwa ( Aged 65 years) and Karmi Bai Korwa ( Aged 60 years) were both detected for Cataract. Financial problems and lack of awareness prevented the Couple or anybody from their family to avail paid health care from any hospital.
It was only due to Balco’s initiative that the Korwa Couple could be first detected for Cataract and then could be operated on a ‘free of cost’ basis at Korba District Hospital. As a result normal eyesight has been restored to the couple.
During the Health Check-up Camp organized in Village Gahania, Dr. P.R. Kumbhkar Chief Medical Officer, Korba and Col. D.S. Bhati, G.M., Administration, Balco were present to provide guidance and support to the Camp. Binu and Karmi who came to the Camp explained about their eyesight problem to the Para Medical Staff at the Camp. Without even a wink of an eyelid, Dr. Kumbhkar and Col. D.S. Bhati took a decision to operate the Couple for Cataract in the District Hospital.
The Officers of Balco reached the Couple to the District Hospital where Dr. K.L.Dhruv, Secretary, District Blindness Control Committee, did an extensive examination of the Couple’s eyes and then operated upon them for Cataract. The family members of the Couple were present at the Hospital during the operation. When the couple opened their eyes after the operation and could see everything so crystal clear, their joy knew no bounds.
Their eyesight was cured. The District Hospital gave spectacles and medicine on a ‘free of cost’ basis to the Couple before discharging them. On behalf of Balco clothes were given to the Couple.
Then Balco Officers helped reach the couple safely to their Village home. Post operation, Government Eye Specialists are taking care of the Couple so that they stay free from any type of infection.
